It’s everywhere – the alleged breakdown of Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s marriage has left us all shook. Although I was initially jealous of Sophie, like all Camp Rock fans would be, the news of their split is unexpected and obviously sad. Looking back at Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s relationship timeline is bittersweet. I feel like a fake fan for missing the signs their marriage was headed for divorce, and so can’t help but try and work out where it all went wrong.

2016: The pair connected through Instagram DMs

After multiple attempts of others trying to set them up, the eldest Jonas Brother and Game of Thrones actress eventually followed each other on Instagram in 2016. The pair then first connected over Instagram DM, with Sophie not expecting to like Joe at first. Sophie told Harper’s Bazaar UK: “We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue.”

October 2016: The pair met for the first time

After their mutual meeting, Joe and Sophie arranged to get together in person for a drink. They got together while Joe passed through the UK on tour after Sophie’s friends thought it would be a laugh and convinced her to agree.

She even admitted in an interview with Elle that she “thought he would be such a dick” and took some of her rugby boy mates with her, worried he might be catfishing her. But as we all know, that wasn’t the case. Soon they fell for each other after a night spent drinking hard together at a pub in the UK. The ale will do that to you, rest assured.

October 31st, 2016: Joe and Sophie attended a Halloween party together

The pair were spotted together at a party after a friend shared a group picture, where Sophie was spotted in a bunny costume and Joe was dressed as a Dalmatian.

November 6th, 2016: The pair were spotted at a Kings of Leon concert

Not long after the party, the duo got together in Rotterdam attending a pre-MTV Europe Music Awards Kings of Leon concert. Photos of Sophie and Joe all cosied up together surfaced and someone spotted them kissing.

November 24th, 2016: Sophie spent Thanksgiving weekend with Joe

Sophie and Joe then went on to spend Thanksgiving weekend together with family at Mammoth Mountain in California. They then flew back to Malibu a couple of days later for a friend’s wedding. Joe’s younger brother, Nick, even shared photo booth pictures showing the couple together.

December 7th, 2016: It was confirmed that Joe and Sophie are exclusively dating

Sources confirmed to PEOPLE that Joe and Sophie were then exclusively dating, with no plans to see anyone else. Joe was said to be “playing the field” by a source, but that he really liked her and was “willing to settle down for her”.

This was a few days after Joe was spotted on a walk with Sophie and her parents in London, with the pair were then seen kissing.

January 1st, 2017: Sophie and Joe’s relationship made it to Instagram 

The couple marked the beginning of the new year by making their relationship Instagram official. Sophie posted a photo of Joe on the back of a boat, smoking a cigar and captioned the post “Miami daze.”

September 2017: Joe and Sophie adopted their dog, Porky

The couple adopted a Siberian Husky puppy, calling him Porky Basquiat. Sophie shared the news of their newest addition to their family online. Not long after, they couldn’t resist bringing home Waldo Picasso, Porky’s brother.

October 15th, 2017: Joe proposed to Sophie

Joe popped the question to Sophie and asked her to marry him. The couple shared the happy news on Instagram on October 15th, along with pictures of their hands together and of Sophie’s extravagant engagement ring. The corresponding captions read “I said yes” and “She said yes”.

October 3rd, 2018: Joe and Sophie made their red carpet debut

After what felt like an age, Sophie and Joe finally made their red carpet debut at the Louis Vuitton show during Paris Fashion Week. The pair arrived in colour coordinated grey outfits, posing together for photographs. Sophie shared a photo from inside the event with the cutest caption “With my love in Paris”.

December 2018: The Jonas family spent Christmas at Sophie’s in England

The couple spent Christmas together in London, along with the whole Jonas family. Newly weds Nick and Priyanka Chopra Jonas were also in attendance, shown in a pic snapped at the Turner’s which was posted on Instagram by Sophie.

March 1, 2019: Sophie starred in the Jonas Brothers’ music video for Sucker

In the same month, Sophie starred in the Jonas Brothers’ music video for Sucker, alongside Nick Jonas’ wife, Danielle, and Nick Jonas’ wife, Priyanka. She later admitted that the making of the video was much more chaotic than any of her other acting projects.

May 1st, 2019: Joe and Sophie married in Las Vegas

Joe and Sophie surprised everyone when they tied the knot in a super fast wedding at the famous A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. The wedding was said to be for legal reasons and went ahead only hours after the Billboard Music Awards and loads of famous celebrities were in attendance. Joe actually forgot to tell his parents about the surprise wedding and Diplo live recorded the wedding on his Instagram.

May 19th, 2019: Sophie revealed she and Joe Jonas once split for 24 hours

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Sophie revealed how Joe saved her life during a time when she was “very mentally unwell”. She added how the engaged pair had split at one point in the relationship, but that it had only lasted 24 hours before they both realised they needed to be with one another. June 29th, 2019: Joe and Sophie had a wedding in France

After getting the legalities out of the way, Joe and Sophie had their official celebration and ceremony at Le Château de Tourreau in Sarrians, France. This time, only the couple’s closest family and friends were invited. The Jonas’ Brothers served as groomsman and Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams was Sophie’s maid of honour.

June, 2020: Sophie was pictured with a baby bump

In June of 2020, Sophie was photographed with a growing bump while out and about with her husband in Los Angeles. The pregnancy was never formally announced, and people went wild over the news of the couple preparing for the birth of their first child.

After keeping their wedding private, the couple finally decided to share photos from their special day online on their second wedding anniversary.

September 2021: Joe and Sophie moved to Miami

Not long after selling their home in Los Angeles, Joe and Sophie moved to Miami. Sophie said she would eventually love to move to England.

October 25th, 2021: Joe and Sophie celebrated the fifth anniversary of their first date

May 2nd, 2022: Sophie showed off her baby bump at the Met Gala with Joe
