Happy Valley fans have a harrowing theory about why Poppy doesn’t take her coat off

I won’t know peace until I have answers

As we gear up for the season finale, Happy Valley fans are speculating why Poppy Hepworth never actually takes her coat off – even when she’s at home.

A subplot in this season focuses on an abusive PE teacher, Rob Hepworth and his family – with viewers noticing Poppy never takes her big puffer off. Now there are some fan theories as to why this is the case and they’re quite harrowing.

Poppy’s dad, Rob, first joined Happy Valley this season as a PE teacher but slowly his personal life has come to surface and it’s not all as fun as it seems. The way he treats his family is frightening, with keeping things locked all over the house and showing no concern over his missing wife in recent episodes. Sadly his wife, Joanna, was murdered by the local pharmacist who then locked her in a suitcase in her garage.

In the penultimate episode, Poppy’s dad asks her to take her coat off after keeping it on and walking around the house. However she doesn’t. Viewers have a few reasons as to why this is the case.

Firstly, someone said it’s like a comfort blanket for her. It’s a way of her coping with her trauma and hopefully a police officer will clock onto this in the final episode.

Another person said it’s something to do with her living in a traumatising household. Saying Rob hasn’t been aggressive towards the kids, or at least shown to be, but potentially she is hiding bruises or marks that show someone being physical with her.

If you want to see how true this theory is, the finale episode and ending to Happy Valley season three airs on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
