Big Brother audience member who proposed on-screen finally hits back at wild accusations
He's not having any of it
So, a momentous clip from Big Brother did the rounds this October. But, things quite quickly went from fairytale proposal to a potential faux pas of epic proportions. Now, the proposer in question exclusively told Reality Shrine his side of the story.
A live TV proposal during Big Brother: Late and Live had the internet swooning until social media turned the moment upside down.
The heartwarming audience moment, where a man named Matt got down on one knee mid-broadcast, quickly went viral.
But hours later, people online began to allege that the man behind the proposal already had another partner. Now, he’s hit back directly, shutting down the speculation – firstly with a fiery tweet of his own, and then an exclusive word on what went down.
Big Brother proposal stole the show
The romantic surprise unfolded during Big Brother: Late and Live, when the cameras panned to an audience member suddenly proposing to his partner in front of the cheering crowd.
Clips shared by fan account @superTV247 captured the moment, writing: “A man in tonight’s Big Brother audience just proposed to his partner live on air!”
It was an instant viral sensation, a rare dose of unscripted sweetness in the chaotic Big Brother universe.
But the joy didn’t last long. Within hours, posts began circulating, accusing the proposer of being in another relationship.
What started as a cute audience moment spiralled into chaos with internet detectives trying to unearth details about the man’s personal life.

After the rumour storm picked up, the audience member at the centre of it all took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the accusations head-on. In a post that’s since gained thousands of views, user @itzmattymcr wrote:
“Before anyone starts with the rumours, I’m not with anyone else. I didn’t cheat, and the proposal was real. People just love drama.”
He followed it up with another post joking about the internet’s obsession with “inventing chaos for clout.”
People quickly rallied in his replies, with one writing: “You don’t owe anyone an explanation, your moment was adorable,” while others encouraged him to “ignore the noise.”
Then, Matt confirmed to Reality Shrine that the whole thing was “100 per cent legitimate.”
He told us: “Everything you saw on Big Brother Late and Live last night was 100% legit — I proposed to my now fiancé Tyler because I truly love him.
“The hate comments & fake stories from my ex and ex–friends today are just drama. They’re faking messages and twisting things to make me look bad. I proposed on national TV — that’s proof enough this is real.”
