Love Is Blind producer breaks his silence on the show’s controversial LGBTQ+ conversations
Nick and Annie were slammed for their views
Nick and Annie stirred up some backlash from Love Is Blind viewers this season, while speaking about the topic of LGBTQ+ and how they’d feel if their children identified as being part of that community. Now, the production team’s boss is sharing his personal views.
The Love Is Blind creator, as well as Kinetic Content founder and CEO, Chris Coelen, since told Variety: “It’s whatever they want to talk about. People talk about a whole slew of things. They’re there for 10 days, and hours upon hours of conversations.”
“As producers, the fun part of what we do is to try to figure out what the things are that represent people’s stories in terms of what feels relevant to them in any particular journey that they’re on,” he added, addressing if they encourage contestants to talk about these topics.
Some people were shocked at Nick and Annie‘s conversation, with the latter blaming the show’s editing. She said: “Lol, it’s an unfortunate edit painting me as a homophobe. Don’t ever talk about my parents like that. We are all loving and amazing people.”
“Netflix will do what they want and create a character to support their narrative,” Annie added, having agreed with Nick that being part of the LGBTQ+ community is “100 percent a fad.” She said, “Like, I’ll support my kids, but making sure they’re informed.”
“Like, ‘Do you know what you’re getting into? Do you know what you’re signing up for?’” Annie revealed in a conversation with Nick, while he said that it’s a “concern” of his as to whether children start “having those thoughts too young.”
Annie and Nick both admitted they “got spanked and had old-school parents” growing up. Nick said: “Sometimes, they [kids] need to be reprimanded. Annie has now faced backlash after she agreed and said: “Hell yeah, I’ll be a strict parent but that’s as nice as I’ll be.”
