Every time a Love Is Blind cast member broke the rules and discussed their looks in the pods
Did we not all get the memo?
The premise of Love Is Blind is simple but intense. People talk to each other in pods, build emotional connections, all without seeing one another.
The idea is to put looks aside, let personality, values, and vulnerability take centre stage.
But as people have noticed, it doesn’t always play out that way.
Time and time again, there have been multiple moments where contestants couldn’t help but bring up appearance, theirs or their dates’, even when it seems to fly in the face of the show’s core concept.
Shake Chatterjee
Shake’s such an asshole, and the way he reacted afterwards affirms that Deepti made the right choice for herself. Love that for her #LoveIsBlind pic.twitter.com/brWy2T57IT

One of the most blatant ‘looks’ discussions came in season two with Abishek ‘Shake’ Chatterjee.
Shake asked his pod date, Deepti Vempati, whether she’d be okay if he lifted her on his shoulders at a music festival.
Obviously, it was a question loaded with judgment about her body size. He also criticised her physique, per People, and made other comments that basically reduced attraction to physical parameters.
What’s interesting here is that some of these moments (like asking if someone is thin enough, or about their workout habits) are not explicitly banned by the show’s formal rules, according to production.
The lines are ambiguous. Contestants are allowed to describe how they look, mention celebrity lookalikes, or use certain appearance cues. But the show expects, or at least the premise implies, that these conversations won’t dominate.
Speaking to Variety in 2020, the show’s creator Chris Coelen from Kinetic Content said: “They were never given any instruction on what to say or what not to say or what they could ask about or what they couldn’t ask about… We really wanted it to be their own story, their own journey.”
Chelsea Blackwell
Chelsea Blackwell, a contestant from Love Is Blind Season 6, tells Jimmy Presnell that she looks like Megan Fox:
“I don’t even know if it’s mgk’s wife or his girlfriend.”
“You’re saying you look like Megan Fox?”
“It’s only because I have light eyes and dark hair.” pic.twitter.com/Rh0bK7WGDp— mgkmagic (@mgkmagic) February 15, 2024
In season six, Chelsea Blackwell pretty much broke the internet when she told Jimmy Presnell that she’d been compared to Megan Fox in the past.
The two got talking about celebrity lookalikes in the pods, and it went on to become a Love Is Blind moment we’ll never forget.
Chelsea said post-show that her comment was “taken out of context” and then, actual, real-life Megan Fox spoke out publicly to defend her.
Hannah Jiles
One of the more recent moments a Love Is Blind star hinted at their appearance comes from Hannah Jiles in season seven.
Hannah was pretty open about her struggles with her weight and how it shaped how she saw herself.
In one pod conversation with Leo Braudy, she opened up about memories from childhood, including how her mom used to lock cabinets to stop her snacking, how weight had always been a sensitive subject.
Anna and Patrick
Patrick and Katie discussing ethnicity is not what this show is about. Dropping hints on they physical appearance or race should not be not be allowed really 🤔 😒 #LoveIsBlind pic.twitter.com/30aCmNVo0A

During season nine, Anna and Patrick wasted no time in getting chatting about their appearances.
In the pods they both explained their parents came from other countries. Fair enough, they did’t fully disclose any details, but they still dropped hints which, according to people on X, “should not be allowed really.”
