Ok, so all the beef rumours are actually circulating off the back of some really exciting news for Hilary Duff. She took to her socials to share that she’s heading back into the music world. Anyone who was keen on her tunes in the noughties is likely absolutely buzzing about it. But, there are some people who are convinced a feud has reignited. Where does this all stem from you ask? Well, Nicole left a comment on one of Hilary’s Instagram posts, and people are sensing shade.
Taking to the ‘gram, Nicole wrote: “Come to Brazil” on Hilary’s post. People speculating drama wrote on X: “Stream dignity now” and “She’s so funny.” More wrote on the IG post: “You knew we were gonna ask for this, legend that got the memo.”
By the looks of things, people are making reference to some 200s drama. Back in the day, some speculated that a few of Hilary’s Dignity album lyrics were shade aimed at Nicole. But, Hilary later clarified they were inspired by personal experiences and general Hollywood drama.
So, are Hilary Duff and Nicole Richie beefing?
As of now, there’s no confirmed feud between Hilary and Nicole. In fact, the two have been spotted together on multiple occasions, including attending a concert by Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, in June 2024, and enjoying a girls’ night out in Los Angeles, per People.
Additionally, in January 2023, Hilary discussed her friendship with Nicole and her ex, Joel Madden, on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, emphasising their positive relationship. While Hilary’s 2007 album Dignity featured songs like Gypsy Woman and Dignity that some speculated were about Nicole. But, Duff clarified that Gypsy Woman was inspired by her father’s affair, not Richie, per Reuters. She also mentioned that Dignity was about people in Hollywood in general, not specifically about Richie.
She explained: “I don’t have anything against her… I broke up with my boyfriend, and I expect him to date other people, and I don’t know her, and I don’t have a problem with her, and I really don’t want her to think that I don’t like her because she’s dating my ex-boyfriend. I’m going to date people too, y’know?”
Speaking of the song, Hilary added: “It’s much more meaningful than what Nicole Richie means to me.”
