All these RuPaul’s Drag Race queens swore they’d never return to the show, and here’s why
Talk about drama
For a show that birthed catchphrases, careers, and couture out of chaos, RuPaul’s Drag Race doesn’t always leave its queens feeling like winners. While some return again (and again, and again) for All Stars glory, others have dramatically declared they’re done with Mama Ru’s franchise for good. Whether it’s shady editing, lowball critiques, or pure emotional burnout, these queens didn’t just sashay away, they slammed the Werk Room door on their way out. Here are the most infamous queens who’ve said ‘never again’ to Drag Race.
Willam – Season four
Kicking off our list of RuPaul’s Drag Race stars who vowed to never return to the show, let’s start with the most iconic rebellion of them all. Willam was disqualified mid-season for “breaking the rules,” but she’s since made it very clear she’d never return, unless she’s getting Ru’s job. On her podcast, Willam has spilt gallons of tea on the show’s conditions, accusing producers of manipulative tactics and bad treatment. “I don’t want to be on All Stars, I want to be the host,” she once said. We believe her.
Adore Delano – Season six and All Stars season two
Fan fave Adore Delano made waves on season six, but when she returned for All Stars two, she exited early after feeling emotionally bullied by Michelle Visage’s critiques. “I didn’t sign up for a psychological experiment,” she later said, adding that the vibe was nothing like her original season. Since then, Adore has made music, toured, and stayed firm in her stance: no more Drag Race.
Pearl – Season seven
Pearl may have made it to the top three, but her experience wasn’t all glamour. After the now-infamous moment where RuPaul allegedly said: “Nothing you say matters unless that camera is rolling,” Pearl felt crushed. “That broke my spirit,””she later revealed. She’s since distanced herself from the franchise and said she has no interest in returning, ever.
The Vixen – season 10
The Vixen made her mission clear: to confront racism in the Drag Race fandom and call out double standards. But the emotional toll of her experience led her to walk out of the reunion and later swear off the show.
She’s since focused on her own community work and performances, saying Drag Race is no longer a safe or supportive space for her.
Carmen Carrera – season three
Carmen has been vocal about how the show, and RuPaul personally, handled conversations around gender identity. While she’s been suggested for All Stars by a lot of folks, she’s made it clear she has no plans to return and has even distanced herself from the Drag Race brand entirely.
Gia Gunn – season six and All Stars four
After appearing on both Season six and All Stars four, Gia has criticised the show for how it represents trans queens. She’s expressed disappointment over her edit and stated that she wouldn’t come back unless major changes were made behind the scenes.
Drag Race may be the Olympics of drag, but it’s not for everyone. These queens proved that sometimes the real gag is knowing when to walk away.
