Nene Leakes reveals the heartbreaking reason she declined joining season four of The Traitors
She admitted she's 'so glad' she turned it down
Nene Leakes has emotionally revealed the real reason she decided to turn down The Traitors, despite being asked to appear during season four.
Nene explained her reasoning on a episode of The Humble Brag with Crystal and Cynthia podcast, saying: “I was asked to do Traitors — I was really excited about doing it, by the way.
She added: “I couldn’t do Traitors because my son is in the hospital, and he’s still in the hospital. My son’s been in the hospital since May.”
Her son Brent suffered a stroke at 22, and also recently underwent a heart transplant but that “his heart started rejecting” the transplant and he’d been hospitalised to try and “stop the rejection.”
As such, Nene didn’t feel like she could go on The Traitors, adding: “I’m so glad I said no.”
She explained that when she was offered to appear on the show they gave her the dates for filming, with her initially assuming her son would have recovered by the time filming started.
Nene elabrorated: “I kept thinking maybe Brent would be much better [by June],” she added. “My fear was committing and then having to go back to them and say, I can’t do it.
“So that was never going to work. Brent was very sick. It was no way I could have committed to it. And I believe you have to go out of the country [to film the show].”
She saw the opportunity to appear on the show as a chance “to do all these great things and come back really strong.”
Nene also touched upon rumours that she decided not to appear in the fourth season due to the pay not being enough.
She clarified: ““No, no, no. I got the check. If Brent had been in the place that he’s in today, I would have went. We can FaceTime. He’s talking. He wasn’t walking at the time. Now he’s walking, he’s talking.”
