Exclusive: Love on the Spectrum star reveals what it’s REALLY like to be on the show
The show has come under fire for its controversy
A Love on the Spectrum star has exclusively spoke to Reality Shrine about what it’s really like to be on the popular Netflix series. She was on season three for nine minutes, appearing as a date for James, and although it didn’t work out, Sonia Wiggins is now revealing the truth behind the filming of the reality show, and it’s super juicy.
Sonia spills the tea on Love on the Spectrum stardom
Sonia featured on Love on the Spectrum season three for all but nine minutes, but said filming actually “took a lot longer.” Although she has to remain tight-lipped about exactly how long it took to film, she’s super grateful for the opportunity and spoke highly about the producers and casting team, saying, “It’s a very genuine show, and I was barely on it.”
“The producers are such wonderful people, these people work so hard, they try hard to set us up with people and they take really good care of their cast members,” Sonia added. As for whether it’s scripted, she claims it’s “totally real” but did admit that it’s “edited to the music just like any other show,” adding, “I just think honesty is key.”
She continued: “Sean Bowman is one of the kindest people I have ever met that works for the show, and he makes you feel supportive, even though I’m not a main character. He is one of the kindest men I have ever met. Most importantly, I love the show and love the producers. That is a fact. The LOTS team really cares about everyone, I want them to know that.”
She’s also clapping back at online trolls
Sonia has, like other Love on the Spectrum cast members, experienced online hate as a result of her new stardom. A lot of people accused her of being a “clout-chaser,” but she’s had enough and is telling trolls that she went on the show for genuine reasons. She told us, “It is not a reality show, it is a documentary about us autistic kids and love. Just let people live their lives.”
Her brother, Joe Wiggins, works in the media industry himself, while Sonia is currently grieving her mother, Marjorie Agosin, who sadly passed away recently. She said, “I had many opportunities to go into the industry. But I went on that show for love. I could have done stuff. So much for clout.” She also told James she’s “used to rejection” on the series and wishes his new partner, Shelley, the best.
She told us: “Last Mother’s Day was, in fact, my last Mother’s Day. I had the opportunity to go on a date with James, and I genuinely sought to find love. I hold the crew, including James, in high esteem. My primary intention is to emphasize that, despite my personal circumstances, my mother’s decision to keep her stage four cancer diagnosis private serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of respecting others.”
