He was just seven when they split
Love on the Spectrum star Connor Tomlinson just emotionally opened up about his parents’ heartbreaking divorce when he was just a child. We get to see Connor’s dating journey in season three, and he’s been bringing joy to the screen since people first met him last year. But, it hasn’t all been an easy ride for him and his family.
Connor’s dad doesn’t feature in Love on the Spectrum
Anyone watching Love on the Spectrum these days might have noticed how Connor’s biological father doesn’t feature on the show.
A lot of people have been calling for the Tomlinson family to get their own spin-off show, as they’re so lovable and iconic.
More took to social media to try and find out more about Connor’s parents’ split.
Connor does talk about his dad during season three, and he and his mom have opened up even more outside of the Netflix show.
It’s explained that his mom and dad divorced, and his step-dad, Tony, features on the show.
He did film Love on the Spectrum scenes with his dad, but they didn’t make it into the final edit, per Forever Forward Pod.
Connor explained: “Last season I was filmed in a park talking to my dad, we were just walking around and, well, that scene never made it into the final cut…”
Connor’s mom added how he felt his “dad got left out of it” a little and added: “It would’ve also explained the British angle because his dad is English.”
Love on the Spectrum star emotionally opens up
Speaking in an episode of Car Rides with Connor, the Love on the Spectrum star opened up about what it was like for him when his parents divorced.
Connor was around seven or eight years old, according to his mom, Lise.
He said of the heartbreaking time: “Honestly, I had no idea what it meant.”
Connor added how “once he figured out” his parents wouldn’t be living together any more, he was “terrified and sad.”
When it comes to what helped him through that time, Connor explained:
“Nothing really… I did have hopes you and dad would get back together… it wasn’t until recently, the first time I saw the ending of Mrs Doubtfire, sometimes divorced parents get back together and sometimes they don’t and if they don’t, don’t blame yourself.
“Just because they may no longer love each other, doesn’t mean that they don’t still love you.”
Connor added: “As long as there’s love, those are the ties that bind.”
The Netflix star said he didn’t remember going to therapy for his parents’ divorce during his younger years when his mom asked.
