Deadliest Catch season 20 sees the return of many OGs including Jake Anderson and Sig Hansen. Some critics call the Discovery Channel show “fake,” but the risk the cast and crew take by taking on the challenge of a season of crab fishing is a reality. The new episodes see Sig telling one of his crew members “It’s not worth his life” working on the water.
Crew members slip into freezing waters
During Deadliest Catch season 20 episode 6, Captain Sig Hansen deals with something for the first time in his long-spanning career.
The crab boat captain has two of his crew members accidentally slip into the icy waters of the Bering Sea.
One man lets out a yell before the words “man overboard” are heard, then Sig scrambles to find out “what happened.”
He’s told: “It’s Clark and the camera guy.”
Sig shouts: “Grab the ring, I’m gonna bring it over.”
The other crew members hurry to get the life rings thrown out to Clark and the cameraman before they’re safely brought back on board the F/V Northwestern.
Sig Hansen tells it straight
After being rescued from the freezing cold sea, the cameraman sits, shaken, with a towel around his neck. Back on board the boat, he explains how “Clark slipped.”
He continues: “I reached out for him, I had my camera in my hand… and, you know, I was just too far over, and then we’re in.”
Discovery Channel star Sig asks: “You good?” before he responds: “Yeah, I’m good.”
The Captain adds: “You can’t take any chances like that. It’s not worth it. It’s not worth your life.”
