Jack Fowler shares he suffered a terrifying ordeal aboard a plane this June. He begins a social media post with the words “trigger warning.” The 28-year-old is known for quite literally being a “Jack the lad” and rose to fame on Love Island six years ago. However, fans see a different side to the reality star this summer as he uses his platform to raise awareness about allergies.
Former Love Island heartthrob Jack took to Instagram yesterday, admitting he “can’t believe” he’s writing about the scary ordeal he had while on board a plane. The reality TV star explains how he was offered an in-flight meal before stressing he had an allergy, but, despite his attempts to make it clear he couldn’t consume any nuts, he was allegedly served a dish that included cashews.
Jack Fowler has a severe nut allergy
Jack calls out Emirates airline for allegedly serving him a dish with nuts in its ingredients list.
He explains how he was on his way to Dubai before the journey took a turn for the worse and he “could’ve died.”
The 28-year-old says that he told the air host he was “severely allergic to all nuts,” and was reassured there “were no nuts in the chicken curry.”
He continues: “When I received the meal, I asked the same flight attendant again to make sure, and again was told that it does not have nuts included. Trusting my flight attendant, I began to eat the chicken curry. Immediately, my throat closed up and breathing became extremely difficult…”
Jack ‘could’ve died on the plane’
In Jack’s post, he asks, “What needs to happen for allergies to be taken seriously?”
The Celebs Go Dating alum recalls how he was “…left with the real possibility of dying on the plane.”
He writes: “I knew I needed emergency treatment immediately. I was given five tanks of Oxygen, as well as administering my Adrenaline Pen (Epi Pen). I told the flight supervisor, ‘If you don’t land this plane soon, I will die on this plane’. This then led to the pilot speeding up the journey.”
Upon landing, the TV star says he was rushed to Dubai’s airport hospital, where he continued treatment.
He urges companies to “take more care” when it comes to allergies.
Many of the star’s reality TV friends, including Eyal Booker comment on his post to say they’re “glad he’s OK,” and more write how they’re “sorry” for his scary experience.
A spokesperson for Emirates airline told us: “We are sorry to hear of Mr Fowler’s experience and our teams on ground are providing him with all possible assistance. The safety and health of our customers is taken very seriously.
“While Emirates aims to cater to customers with specific needs by offering a variety of special meals that cover medical, dietary, and religious requirements, we cannot guarantee a nut-free inflight environment. We urge travelers with dietary or other medical requirements to check our website and consult their doctor before travel.”
GRV Media and Reality Tidbit has approached Emirates for comment.
