The X Factor‘s iconic duo had the judges in absolute stitches when Ant and Seb took to the floor in 2008. So it’s no wonder that, although they never got further in the competition, their audition lives on. They performed Mysterious Girl like nobody ever has before – and the song will never be the same again.
Ant and Seb on X Factor
Anton and Seb on The X Factor, whose numbers were 48157 and 48158, sang Mysterious Girl for their 2008 audition. Despite multiple attempts to win the judges over, they received three no’s.
At the time, the two brothers were just young students. And when they were rejected, Anton decided to go full pelt and sing an entirely different song – much to Simon Cowell’s dismay.
Seb, who pipes up with adlibs like ‘move your body’, is his friend Anton’s top supporter. He tells Simon, “I’m sorry but he’s a good singer. I can’t take no for an answer.”
Judges were in stitches over the audition
Cheryl Cole found Ant and Seb on The X Factor hilarious. Simon Cowell couldn’t stifle his laughter and was closely followed by fellow judge Louis Walsh in a laughing fit.
Simon said that it was “more like Ant and Death” but Seb couldn’t let the criticism get in the way of his and Anton’s success. He says: “Come on, Simon, we know we’re good enough.”
Seb added: “No disrespect, but we’ve heard we’re pretty good. Give us this chance and we will prove to you that we’re different. You’ve never had anything like this on this show before.”
Iconic duo make Halloween fame
Although Ant and Seb have taken themselves away from TV fame, longtime X Factor fans are paying homage to the iconic duo. Many dressed up in jeans with either a yellow top or black tank.
Years after brothers Anton and Sebastian Martin became an overnight YouTube sensation, you can recreate their outfits for Halloween. All you need is a yellow shirt if you’re Seb with baggy denim jeans!
To be Anton, just wear a wide-shouldered black tank top and baggy denim jeans. And of course, the most important part is printing out an X Factor logo with their numbers on your chest.
