Teen Mom follows women in their teenage years who have fallen pregnant. However, Cheyenne Floyd‘s casting has MTV viewers seriously confused, due to the star being in her late twenties.
Cheyenne’s Family Reunion co-stars include women who brought children into the world in their teens, such as Amber Portwood, who gave birth to daughter Leah at the age of 18 with then-boyfriend Gary Shirley.
She was invited back to be a cast member for Teen Mom OG’s in January 2021, after originally being dropped from the original Teen Mom in 2019.
So, why exactly is Cheyenne on Teen Mom if she doesn’t fall under the ‘teenager’ bracket? We found out why the 28-year-old was cast rather than a mom who gave birth in her teens.

Fans react to Cheyenne’s casting
Some fans have claimed that Cheyenne shouldn’t be on Teen Mom because she didn’t give birth in her teenage years. However, many had her back when Farrah Abraham accused her of having a baby to get on the MTV show.
A viewer wrote: “I don’t get why Cheyenne is on Teen Mom OG. She wasn’t even a teen mom.. #teenmom.”
In fact, an entire Reddit thread has been made to discuss why Cheyenne was cast for the show, which has over 30 comments so far and was created 11 months ago.
“Why is Cheyenne on Teen Mom in the first place? She wasn’t on 16 and Pregnant… she wasn’t even close to being a teen when she had her first baby- she was 24“, wrote a Reddit user.
Another said: “I think I read somewhere that she was on one of the Real World Challenge shows? And ended up getting pregnant so they stuck her on Teen Mom.”
Why is Cheyenne on Teen Mom?
Cheyenne claims that she is on the show as she has the “same struggles” as a teenage mom, and feels having a baby in her early twenties was not an “ideal” age. Therefore, she closely relates to the other Teen Mom stars.
The 28-year-old had her daughter with her ex Cory Wharton when she was 23 and has recently welcomed baby number two into the world with her new baby daddy, Zach Davis.
So although she doesn’t exactly fall under the teenage mom bracket, she appears to believe MTV hired her for the show due to her similarities as a young mother to the other cast members.
Most fans think her presence on MTV show Are You The One? is likely to have influenced Cheyenne being cast on the Teen Mom series. She has also competed on The Challenge: Rivals 3, where she met her ex-boyfriend Cory Wharton.
Rather than searching for an entirely new cast member, she would have already been in the MTV cast list database, and as a young mom herself, is thought to have been a clear choice for the production team.

Cheyenne responds to backlash
Cheyenne has faced a whole load of backlash from viewers, who are accusing her of not actually being a teenage mother. She told US Weekly her daughter was unplanned and added that she’s still “learning”.
I think that a lot of people are stuck on the word and at the end of the day I’m still young mom. I still have the same struggles and I’m still learning just like everyone else.
The cast member went on to say that she has different ways to relate to her co-stars and said:
So instead of me screaming all day long that I’m not a teen mom, I’d rather just talk about things that I am.
