Jessica Lange’s favourite American Horror Story moment is also all of ours; she really gets us

Though I won’t comment on the quality of the later seasons, which Jessica Lange was not in, there’s no denying that the actress made American Horror Story the great IP it is today. 

First appearing as Constance Langdon in American Horror Story: Murder House, Jessica Lange’s incredible range has made her the show’s highest award nominee, with a whopping 31 nominations. The second-highest is Sarah Paulson, with 19. 

Following Constance, the two-time Oscar winner portrayed Sister Jude Martin, Fiona Goode, and Elsa Mars before stepping back from Ryan Murphy’s set. She returned as Constance in Apocalypse and is playing a staggering five characters in 13. Just last week, the secret fifth character was revealed to be Margaret Thatcher.  While viper-tongued Fiona was perhaps her most popular character with viewers, her favourite season was Freak Show, where she played Elsa Mars.

Love it or hate it, AHS has generated so many instantly quotable lines. From Sarah Paulson’s “I’m the f**king supreme” to Emma Roberts saying “surprise b*tch”, there are almost too many to name. 

On the red carpet for American Horror Story season 13, various cast members were asked what their favourite lines are.

Jessica Lange’s should be obvious if you really think about it. To this day, it’s a viral sound on TikTok, despite being filmed over 10 years ago. 

“I always like the end of season three,” she confessed. “The spending eternity in Knotty Pine.”

As you’ll remember, upon being sent straight to hell in Papa Legba’s domain, Fiona finds herself living her afterlife in painfully mundane surroundings. 

The full line was: “Oh, God! I can’t spend eternity here. This place, it reeks of fish. Cat p*ss. What is this? Knotty pine?!”
