Where Miranda Hart has been as she returns to TV on Traitors, from health issues to new husband

It’s such fun to have her back on our screens

Celebrity Traitors returns on Thursday, and Miranda Hart is one of the many, many comedians on this year’s series. She’s bound to be a big character in there, but what has she been up to over the past few years? After finishing her BBC sitcom in 2015, she disappeared from the public eye, so here’s a quick rundown of her life since then.

Miranda continued acting for a while after her hit show

For around five years after her sitcom’s finale, Miranda stayed in the acting world. She played Chummy in Call the Midwife, then appeared in the 2015 comedy Spy with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham, definitely her biggest role to date. She was also in the 2018 Christmas movie The Nutcracker and the Four Realms with Keira Knightley, and the 2020 movie Emma with Anya Taylor-Joy.

Then she quit TV after suffering from some health issues

Miranda disappeared from the spotlight for a few years and later revealed in 2024 that she had been battling some health issues. In 2020, she found out that she had been living with Lyme disease contracted from a tick when she was a teenager. This led to chronic fatigue syndrome, otherwise known as ME, which restricted her day-to-day life and ability to work.

Miranda opened up about her health in her 2024 memoir

She released a book in 2024 called I Haven’t Been Quite Honest With You, where she opened up about the debilitating condition she had been living with, which caused extreme fatigue and brain fog. She said: “I was housebound and bedbound for years. I didn’t have a job, I didn’t have a social life. I didn’t have any responsibilities or identities.”

Now she’s married! And writes books

In October 2024, Hart revealed that she had secretly married a guy called Richard Fairs in 2023 at 51. He’s a building surveyor, and they actually met when he came to treat a mould problem at her London home while she was bedbound with Lyme disease. They said “I do” at a 1,000-year-old church in Hampshire.

While away from TV, Miranda wrote two novels, the 2017 children’s book The Girl With The Lost Smile, and the festive story The Christmas Tree that Loved to Dance.

Miranda finally feels ‘well enough’ to return to TV

Ahead of her appearance on The Traitors, Miranda told the BBC she’s “still living with elements of ME” which brings “fatigue and pain to manage,” but she’s got to the point where she “feels well enough to step out” into the world of TV again.

I can’t wait to have her back on my TV again. It feels so nostalgic. Such fun!
