Meet Moyin Odeniran, the KCL student taking part in this year’s Great British Bake Off
Turns out all those hours in the library were worth it
The latest series of the Great British Bake Off is well under way. While we’re all enjoying watching the bakers create sweet treats that we could only dream of, one thing you may not know is that one of this year’s contestants is actually a King’s College London student.
Moyin Odeniran, is a 22-year-old from Essex and recent political economy graduate, finishing his degree in 2026.
He started baking at the age of five with his mum. Not only is he into baking, but Moyin is also a competitive sprinter and was a King’s Sport performance athlete during his time at the university. On the show, he admitted that he can run 100 metres in just 10.76 seconds.
Moyin’s already been off to a flying start, and the judges have complimented not only his baking, but also his fashion sense in the iconic white tent, with new judge Nigella Lawson saying: “You’re the only person I’ve ever seen look chic in shorts”.
The best part? He was actually still studying at King’s when he competed on the show and even included the universities Strand Campus in his VT.
But it seems King’s produces bakers, as Moyin isn’t the first KCL alumnus to appear on the show. In 2015, Dr Tamal Ray, who studied medicine at King’s, was a finalist on the show.
Meanwhile, Syabira Yusoff, a former KCL researcher, went on to win the show back in 2022. This makes me have high hopes for Moyin!
