Hannah Fry revealed her plan to stay ‘mischievous’ during Celebrity Traitors season two

‘I’m toxically competitive’

Professor Hannah Fry is swapping equations for deception as she joins the cast of Celebrity Traitors for its second series.

The mathematician and broadcaster is one of 21 celebrities heading to the castle for the new series, all hoping to make it to the end and win a share of the prize money for their chosen charity.

Hannah is best known for making maths and science accessible to the masses, whether that’s through her broadcasting work, books or social media. Unsurprisingly, Hannah has admitted she’s planning to put her maths skills to work.

Hannah Fry says she’s taking her ‘nerd quota’ duties seriously

Ahead of entering the Traitors castle, Hannah described the experience as potentially one of the biggest things she’s ever done. She told Radio Times it would “genuinely be one of the most important, amazing experiences of my life.”

But anyone expecting Hannah to simply sit quietly and observe everyone else should probably think again. The mathematician has described herself as “toxically competitive” and joked that she’s got an important role to play in this year’s cast.

Professor Fry said: “I’m here to fulfil the nerd quota for the year, and I’m taking my responsibility extremely seriously.”

Hannah explained that the sheer amount of information flying around makes it difficult to work out what’s genuinely useful.

“They are so all over the place that it’s really hard to pick out what the signal is. That’s just one example of a little bit of maths that I’ve got in my back pocket. I am using the same bit of maths that [Alan Turing] used to crack the Enigma machine.

“Whether it’s going to work or not, honestly, your guess is as good as mine. I’ve got spreadsheets coming out of my eyeballs.”

When asked how she intends to approach the game, she said she wants to combine her analytical side with a bit of chaos.

Asked what her strategy will be, Fry replied: “Careful, analytical, and well, the other thing that I really want to be is just a little bit mischievous. I really want to enjoy the ride and have fun being playful.”
