People fuming as Zoe Sugg and Alfie Deyes send brand promo emails during internet break

People are really angry after receiving marketing emails from Alfie Deyes and Zoe Sugg’s brands asking them to buy products when they haven’t posted online for almost a year. 

Zoella disappeared from the internet in January without any kind of explanation. She did their her Vlogmas videos in December 2025, then posted a dump of photos from the festive period on Instagram as normal on 1st January. And that’s the last we’ve heard from her. 

Alfie posted a few photos on Instagram and has been replying to people’s comments on TikTok and Instagram, but he hasn’t returned to YouTube either. And neither of them ever gave any warning that they were going offline for a bit, which has left a sour taste in everyone’s mouths.

Now, people are even more fuming after receiving promotional emails from their brands, Future Self and Good Sunday, about deals and sales, essentially to try and get people to buy stuff.

One woman shared a screenshot of an email she received from Alfie’s planner and clothing brand Future Self, which was advertising a short 33 per cent off sale for the brand’s first birthday if you used the code “BDAY”.  

“Idk it just feels weird to me to want people to buy things from your brand for your birthday when you’ve had no contact with your audience for almost a year with not so much of a ‘we’re taking a little break, we’ll see you soon’,”  she wrote alongside the screenshot. In the comments, everyone is agreeing.

 “This & the dear Sunday emails !?! Like what,” one person wrote. Another agreed: “I agree, I no longer feel like a valued audience member/viewer, I feel like a cash grab.”

Someone else said: “Exactly. I can’t understand all of the “They dont owe anyone anything’ brigade. It’s not about being owed. It’s about having decency and courtesy to the fans who have enabled them to have the life they have. Just so disrespectful to their fans of years.”

“I don’t think any reasonable person is upset that they took a break. What sucks is feeling like we’ve been ghosted. I wish they would just post a text story saying we’re ok and taking an indefinite break. It would be easier to come to terms with. The silence is deafening,” another added. 

No one’s annoyed at them for taking a break offline. They have a young family and maybe just want to live a normal life away from the public eye for a little while. We all get it. They don’t owe us their whole lives. But it’s the way they’ve gone about it that has rubbed people up the wrong way.

A little “we’re taking a break” Instagram post for the millions of people who have supported them over the years would have taken two seconds. It’s really not hard.
