Rafe Coleman Chadwick becomes the youngest person to run the UK AND complete the three peaks

Rafe completed the 3 Peaks Challenge in 22 hours and 40 minutes.

University of York student Rafe Coleman Chadwick has become the youngest person to run both the length of the UK and complete the three peaks challenge.

This is the second physical endurance Rafe has completed this summer, following on from his run of the UK.

Rafe has completed all the challenges in memory of his late father, as he raised money for Brain Cancer Research. The York Tab had the opportunity to speak with Rafe, to hear all about his latest challenge.

For his latest challenge, Rafe, accompanied by his fried Theo, set out to complete the Three Peaks Challenge. If he completed it under 24 hours, he would become the youngest person to run both the length of the UK and complete the three peaks.

A title he now holds, as he finished the Three Peaks Challenge in 22 hours and 40 minutes.

Speaking to Rafe about how he took on the challenge, he told us “we ran up Ben Nevis for the first 15 minutes”, before choosing to walk the rest of the way. However, determined to complete the challenge in time, once they reached the top, they chose to run back down.

Rafe explained that such tactic did not last on Scaffold Pike and Snowdon, as light and weather conditions forced them to walk.

Despite this Rafe and Theo were able to complete the challenge in under 24 hours, spending a total of just over 11 hours on the mountains.

Rafes Three Peaks challenges, comes in succession to him attempting and completing a run of the UK this summer.

Across both challenges Rafe has been raising money Brain Tumour Research in memory of his late father. When we spoke to Rafe at the start of the summer he explained his intention behind the challenge. He told The York Tab, “The main aim of the run is to talk about grief more, we need to normalise the conversation on the topic for young people.”

A message he continued to try to spread with his latest challenge.

While Rafe is back at uni for the year, we are sure this won’t be his last challenge.
