Life as a student at Warwick is full of stories. Some are important, some are ridiculous, and some are both.

From SU politics and university policy to nights out, societies, accommodation, student life and the increasingly bizarre things which happen on campus, there is rarely a shortage of things to write about at Warwick. The difficulty is not finding something to say, but deciding what is actually worth saying.

The Warwick Tab is looking for new writers and content creators to join the team for the 2026/27 academic year.

Whether you have spent years writing, have a half-finished article sitting in your notes app or have simply found yourself thinking “someone should write about this”, there is plenty of room for you.

What makes a good story?

Pretty much anything can become a story for The Warwick Tab story if you look at it from the right angle. News, opinion, features, interviews, lifestyle, culture, fashion, nightlife, university politics, student issues and all the strange little stories which would otherwise disappear into the collective memory of Warwick students are absolutely what The Warwick Tab is looking for. 

You might want to investigate something happening at Warwick which does not quite add up. You might want to interview someone interesting. You might have a particularly strong view about the SU, student politics or university management. You might want to write about something happening in your society, your accommodation or your course. 

Or you might simply have noticed something which everyone else seems to have missed. After all, that is often where the best ideas come from.

Student journalism is at its best when it is actually about students. You are here, you know what people are talking about and you probably have a much better idea of what other students will care about than someone trying to manufacture a story from outside the university.

There is a tendency to assume that you need a portfolio, years of experience or some grand ambition to work in journalism before you can start writing.

The truth is, you don’t.

Writing for The Warwick Tab means actually getting your work published rather than producing another university essay which will be read once, marked, and promptly forgotten.

You can learn how to pitch a story, find sources, conduct interviews, chase people for comment, build an argument and write to a deadline. You get to make mistakes while there is still an editor around to tell you what you did wrong, which is arguably the ideal time to make them.

And if you discover that you are actually quite good at it, even better.

The way people consume journalism has changed, and student media has changed with it, for the better, or for the worse. 

The Warwick Tab is also looking for people who want to make content for social media, whether that means TikToks, Reels, voxpops, interviews, photography, memes or something else entirely.

If you are talented at spotting what’s trending on social media, comfortable talking to people on camera or already know your way around video editing, we want to hear from you.

You do not need thousands of followers and you do not need an expensive camera. A phone and a good idea will get you considerably further than pricey equipment and nothing to say.

There is also no reason you have to choose one or the other.

A story can start as a TikTok and become an article. An article can become a video. An interview can become both. The interesting part is working out what format actually suits the story.

You do not have to be studying a particular subject or planning on becoming a journalist.

If you are interested in politics, there are stories everywhere. If you are interested in fashion, culture or music, there are stories there too. If you are interested in something so niche that you are currently wondering whether anyone else will care, then that’s even better. 

And if you have no idea what you want to do after university, that is also fine.

You might discover that you love writing. You might discover that you hate it. You might find that you prefer interviewing people, making videos or finding stories in the first place.

You won’t know until you try.

You’ll be part of network outside The Warwick Tab

There is a difference between writing something which disappears into a Moodle submission box and writing something which other people actually read.

Your name will be attached to your work. People might share it. They might disagree with it. They might even complain about it.

The Warwick Tab is part of a much larger student media network, reaching millions of readers across the UK. Previous writers at The Tab have gone on to work for publications including Vogue, the BBC, The Guardian and The Times, while the experience of reporting, interviewing, writing and producing digital content is useful well beyond journalism itself. 

How to get involved

If you have a story you want to tell, an argument you want to make, a video you want to film or an idea which has been sitting in your Notes app for the last six months, come along and see what happens.

We are looking for new writers and content creators to join The Warwick Tab for 2026/27.

Our open meeting will take place on Tuesday 29th September at 3pm in the Dirty Duck. 

Just don’t spend the rest of the year wishing you’d come.
