Juliette reveals her *real* first impression of Joel at their chaotic MAFS Aus wedding
He was very… eccentric
This week, we are being introduced to the intruder brides and grooms on MAFS Australia, and Juliette has revealed her real first impression of her very eccentric groom Joel.
Joel was very over-the-top from the minute she walked down the aisle, cracking dad jokes in his vows and once again later on in his wedding speech. We saw Juliette pull a few faces, especially when Joel’s mother outrageously called her son a “glutenous pig,” but she didn’t give much away about what she truly thought of him.
In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, she said she wanted to give him the “benefit of the doubt” and put his outlandish actions down to nerves, but the day just kept getting worse and worse.
“The day for me still was so special. It was nice to relive it, walking down that aisle and seeing Joel standing there. I was super, super keen and excited to see who the experts thought was going to be my fit. When I saw him, I definitely felt excited. In the back of my mind, it was all too good to be true,” she said.
“I thought he was nervous at the start. His vows initially were the first red flag for me, but I thought, you know what, it’s probably just nerves. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. But it started to feel like, wow, maybe it isn’t nerves and he thinks this is a joke.”

She described the way he acted as “very performative” and giving “main character” before adding: “Near the end of the wedding, I felt like it wasn’t how I thought it would be initially. It definitely took me by surprise. It wasn’t the fairytale wedding as I thought it was going to be.”
However, it wasn’t until his mum gave a speech that she really felt uncomfortable. “It felt like my heart had sunk,” Juliette said. “I’ve never experienced a mother talking about their son in a negative light like that before. It really shocked me.”
The bride also hated the way Joel didn’t make much effort to get to know her friends and family on the wedding day, but he reassured her he was there for the right reasons in the limo on the way home.
“He promised me that he was here for genuine reasons,” she said. “All I can do is accept that… I’ve got to give him another chance. I’m hoping that when we do the honeymoon and everything, we develop some form of unity.” We’ll have to wait and see how the honeymoon goes. I don’t have a good feeling.
