Turns out ChatGPT knows King’s students a little too well…
With Halloween fast approaching and because nothing says “student journalism” like outsourcing your ideas to AI, I asked ChatGPT what different KCL societies should go as this Halloween. As much as I hate to admit it, some of these are actually kind of clever.
ChatGPT might not understand nuance, but it clearly gets the student struggle. Most of these costumes require about five minutes of effort and whatever’s left in your wardrobe, which is exactly the level of energy we’re working with here.
So, here it is, ChatGPT’s definitive (and occasionally unhinged) guide to what each KCL society should wear for Halloween.
Law Society — Elle Woods
@andie12345 okay elle woods💅 #legallyblonde #ellewoods #halloween #costume
Of course ChatGPT went for Elle Woods. It’s the most obvious law student costume imaginable; pink, confident and deeply unoriginal. Every year someone shows up, thinking they’re the first to quote “What, like it’s hard?”
Still, ChatGPT does get that we’re students on a budget, all you really need is something pink and some misplaced confidence to recreate the iconic character!
Politics Society — Keir Starmer in Crisis

“Keir Starmer in Crisis” isn’t really a costume but at least ChatGPT is keeping up with current affairs. I can absolutely picture someone from the Politics Society showing up in a full suit and red tie though, seeing as so many politics students come to lectures dressed like they’re speaking in Parliament.
ChatGPT said they’d “start the night claiming to be politically neutral and end it debating proportional representation with a traffic cone.” Personally, I think that’s generous…they’d probably start the debate before even leaving pres.
Tech Society — Mark Zuckerberg’s Intern

It’s giving tech bro in denial: Hoodie, lanyard, start-up delusion. Less Halloween costume, more personality trait. ChatGPT really went for the jugular here saying, “Your costume idea came from ChatGPT and you’ll remind everyone of that at least twice.”
To be honest, you’ve got to respect the commitment to bullying its own demographic. The only thing missing is them asking if you’ve heard about their “side project” that’s definitely not a pyramid scheme.
GKT MedSoc — Frankenstein

Finally, a costume that’s actually Halloween-appropriate with a spooky vibe to it. Our medical Frankenstein’s are chaotic, zombie like and stitched together by caffeine. It’s creepy, simple, and surprisingly accurate. Out of all ChatGPT’s picks, this is the one that actually makes sense.
It’s a solid idea, but the green face paint might not hit the same when you show up to placement the next morning still slightly radioactive. Probably not the reassurance patients are after.
Accounting and Finance Society — Patrick Bateman
@sofieordonez #halloween2024 #halloweencostumeideas #halloweeninspo #americanpsycho #patrickbateman #patrickbatemancostume #halloweenmakeup
This one’s so on-brand, every finance bro already thinks dressing up as Patrick Bateman is funny and ironic so ChatGPT nailed the stereotype! It’s likely they’ll spend the night quoting American Psycho, which is not so much Christian Bale as it is creepy and probably an accurate reflection of their real personality. To any finance bros thinking of trying this: Maybe sit this one out.
KCL Lions (Cheerleading) — Cat-astrophe Victims
I’ll give it to ChatGPT this one’s actually clever, if only the rest of its suggestions had this much personality. It suggested the Lions should go as “cat-astrophe victims, complete with ripped uniforms and cat ears.”
The pun did make me chuckle and I think you could make some pretty cute costumes out of these that fit the cheer energy perfectly. It’s the kind of idea that sounds ridiculous but they’d probably pull it off better than anyone else.
