Here’s what happened to Matt and April after their traumatic ordeal in Netflix’s True Haunting

The family went through sheer terror after discovering some secret chambers in their home

After we survived the first three terrors of Erie Hall in True Haunting on Netflix, arguably James Wan scared us even more with the final two episodes – The House That Murdered Me. This second story tells the story of Matt and April, who endure an absolutely horrific time in True Haunting on Netflix as they talk about what they endured in their Victorian dream home where they got absolutely terrified by ghosts. The show goes into quite some detail about what happened to them, but here’s what Matt and April from True Haunting on Netflix are up to now after they survived it all.

What happened to Matt and April!?

Matt and April Wilson moved into their dream home in Avenues, Salt Lake City. This area was an affluent residential area and the pair had moved into a 100 year old home that had a lot of character but needed renovations. Once Matt started these renovations, the horrors began – because he discovered a series of secret chambers lurking behind a closet. Truly the stuff of nightmares.

Doors started slamming on their own, their son was having nightmares and at one point Matt saw something unexplainable apparently braiding his wife April’s hair. If that wasn’t enough, they started seeing ghosts of children asking for their “mommy”. It’s all a bit Doctor Who The Empty Child vibes for my liking. April and Matt got a paranormal expert in when they were at their wits end and the expert recorded a voice saying “I miss you mommy”. Time to RUN.

A psychic then came in who theorised a man who abused and tortured children used to live in the house, and when Matt opened up the chambers in the closet he’d triggered the hiding place. There was a ritual done to release and cleanse the house of the spirits – which if you believe the tale worked because nothing else has been reported from there.

What life is like for Matt and April now, after True Haunting on Netflix

For Matt and April, finding a place to settle down has been anything but simple. Over the past 20 years, the family has moved house eight times, all while dealing with the aftermath of some seriously spooky experiences. Now based in Salt Lake City, April has started opening up about what they went through on various paranormal discussion platforms.

Their story even made it onto TV before Netflix got its mitts on it. In season three, episode six of Discovery Channel’s A Haunting, the family’s ordeal was brought to life in the episode titled The Forgotten. The traumas of those haunted years also inspired Douglas Burchill’s book, Harvesting Shadows: The True Story of a Haunting: The Forgotten, which is available in audiobook form too.

April hasn’t just shared her story for thrills. On her Harvesting Shadows website, she details her journey of spiritual healing and self-discovery, crediting a spiritual healer for helping her and her family find some peace. Despite everything, her bond with her sons remains stronger than ever. Matt and April’s son Shane in particular, hasn’t let the past define him he’s gone on to build a happy, fulfilling life for himself.
