Korean influencer found dead on mountain after ‘business deal’ with ‘VIP’ living double life

This sounds like Squid Game

A Korean influencer has been found dead on a mountain after getting into an alleged argument with her “VIP” business partner, who was reportedly living a double life.

Yoon Ji-ah, who was in her 20s and had more than 300,000 followers on TikTok, was found dead on a mountain in Muju County, North Jeolla Province, on 11th September, covered in bruises and signs of strangulation, local news site The Chosun Daily reports.

She had been filming a livestream three hours away on Yeongjong Island, Incheon, and was killed 30 minutes after ending the video. Her death was confirmed as a strangulation.

The influencer’s business partner, a man in his 50s named Choi, was arrested 12 hours after the body was discovered. He initially denied the charges, but later confessed to killing Ji-ah, The Chosun Daily reports. It’s not clear whether he has been convicted yet.

Choi had allegedly been living a double life, tricking Ji-ah into believing he was a rich businessman who owned an IT company. He reportedly convinced her that he would increase the number of social media followers, so she reportedly signed a contract and went into business with him.

According to local news site The Joong-Ang, he was known as a “big spending VIP” online in Korea and used the nickname “Black Cat” on video platforms, where he donated huge amounts of money. However, he was actually in a lot of debt, and his house had recently been seized.

Ji-ah was reportedly planning on abandoning the business partnership because he was extremely coercive, using force and threats, and gave her long, unreasonable schedules. CCTV footage showed Choi kneeling and begging Yoon Ji-a before the crime happened.

After allegedly killing Yoon Ji-a, the fake businessman drove into the Muju mountain with a suitcase and stopped eight times to try to confuse the investigation, but was found and arrested.

“The detective said that the camera captured the door closing forcefully as she tried to get out of the car at 3.27pm,” a family member recalled.
