Following the death of Charlie Kirk, buzzwords like groyper, transmaxxing, and black pill have once again been given new life in the depths of grimy internet culture. Though incels are nothing new on the internet, having been thrust into the mainstream light following Netflix’s Adolescence, these terms are more recent in the internet’s history. Here’s the meaning of transmaxxing, and why (like always), the incel ideology is entrenched in misogyny, transphobia, and white supremacy.

To understand the meaning of transmaxxing, we must first nail down some definitions closely associated with incel communities on the internet. While incels typically subscribe to Red Pill ideology, a set of beliefs that claims men are societally subservient to women, the meaning of transmaxxing comes from the slightly less known Black Pill movement.

Black Pill beliefs, which reportedly began on incel forums in the 2010s, reject the incel ideology of changing yourself for sexual attention from women. Instead, they believe that breaking from the incel term can only be done one of two ways: By simply accepting yourself as an incel, or by changing society through often violent means. As per New America, said societal change is “usually advocated as potentially achievable by means of mass violence and terror, not politics or other methods of change.”

Transmaxxing comes from black pill communities and asserts that incels should transition only for the so-called societal benefits of being a woman. According to Them, the 14th version of The Transmaxxing Manifesto claims that “becoming a MtF transsexual is a way better option than being involuntarily celibate as a male.” Such benefits of transitioning are said to include “being able to extract resources from men,” “softer skin and less/no acne,” “people will treat you better,” and “live longer.”

Obviously, the claims are completely baseless. Trans people, and trans women in particular, face an increasing amount of hardship, not only from a social standpoint, but a political one as well. The idea that being a trans woman is easier than being a celibate male is, to be blunt, complete bullsh*t.

Right, so now you might be wondering how the meaning of transmaxxing relates to the death of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk, who was allegedly gunned down by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson at a rally for the American Comeback tour earlier this month.

As you’ll no doubt already know, right-wing commentators and publications have been exposing Tyler’s alleged links to far-left extremism and a trans roommate. Those same outlets have claimed that Tyler’s roommate was transmaxxing, supported by memes found on the bullets that point to Tyler being a groyper, white nationalists who are led by right-wing commentator Nick Fuentes. But, simply put, we just don’t know a lot of details about Tyler Robinson, his roommate, or their wider belief systems.
