Horrifying simulation shows exactly what would happen in the first 30 minutes of nuclear war

The threat of nuclear war never seems to go away, and now a new eerily-timed simulation shows what would happen in the first 30 minutes if the United States decided to start one.

This comes as Russia recently offered America a deal to extend the last remaining nuclear arms treaty by one year, basically trying to make sure a big old nuclear conflict doesn’t happen. Still, tensions are scary, and people are wondering what a nuclear war would even look like.

According to the Federation of American Scientists, Russia and the U.S. have estimated stockpiles of 4,309 and 3,700 nuclear warheads, respectively. That’s a lot of destructive power just sitting there. And now, a simulation shared by the YouTube channel Modern Muscle tries to show what would happen if the U.S. launched those weapons.

So, what does the video show?

It starts with 400 big missiles being fired from the U.S. These missiles are super fast and can travel really far, like across the whole country far. Each missile has a huge bomb that is about 40 times stronger than the bombs dropped on Japan in World War Two. Loads of destruction could happen really quickly.

Then, the U.S. submarines join in. Each submarine can shoot 20 missiles at once. One of these missiles alone is more than 150 times stronger than the Hiroshima bomb. The video says these subs are almost impossible to detect, so their missiles could hit targets without warning. Basically, this would make them the most powerful weapons the military owns.

The simulation shows missiles hitting Russian military bases, communication centres, and even nuclear weapons. By the end of 30 minutes, the video claims all Russian targets are destroyed, and the land around them is basically uninhabitable.

However, loads of people noticed a big problem: The video assumes Russia wouldn’t fight back. That’s very unlikely. One person on YouTube said, “The moment we launch, everyone launches.” Another added, “So Russia will just sit there waiting for the nukes?”
