Wikipedia is planning to take down Erika Kirk’s page – and the reason why is shockingly brutal

This is a lot

After everything she’s been through in the last week, Wikipedia is now planning on taking down the page belonging to Erika Kirk, the wife of Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk was killed on Wednesday last week, during a speech at a Utah Valley University event.

Erika Kirk married Charlie in 2021. They share two children, a daughter born in August 2022, and a son born in May 2024. Erika Kirk is a former Miss Arizona USA and basketball player, who is currently studying for a doctorate in Biblical studies at Liberty University.

But, according to Wikipedia, that’s not enough to warrant having a profile on its site. Editors there are currently in discussion about taking down her page, because she’s “not notable enough” to have one in the first place.

The profile for Erika Kirk on Wikipedia is currently locked, meaning no edits are able to be made for it whilst a decision over whether to keep it up is discussed. According to Fox News, Erika didn’t have a profile before her husband was killed, it was created in the days following.

An editor for the site wrote in the Articles for Deletion thread that the profile should be removed. “Article was created in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s killing, but coverage otherwise is either limited in nature (i.e., her participation in beauty pageants) or inherited from her husband,” the user wrote. Another editor agreed, and argued Erika isn’t notable apart from being married to Charlie.

Many others said Erika does not align with a core Wikipedia policy – in that she does not meet general notability guidelines.

Erika addressed the death of her husband

Over the weekend, Erika addressed her husband’s killing. She thanked authorities for working “tirelessly to capture my husband’s assassin so that he can be brought to justice.” Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer is Tyler Robinson, who sent messages to a group chat about the murder, just hours after it happened.

Erika added: “Charlie loved, loved life. He loved his life. He loved America. He loved nature, which helped always bring him closer to God. He loved the Chicago Cubs. And my goodness did he love the Oregon Ducks. But most of all, Charlie loved his children. And he loved me with all of his heart, and I knew that. Every day I knew that. He made sure I knew that every day. Every day, he would ask me, ‘How can I serve you better? How can I be a better husband? How can I be a better father?’ Every day, every day, such a good man.”
