Here’s why people are dragging Jenny Han over The Summer I Turned Pretty’s latest episode

Jenny han has now responded to it

This season of The Summer I Turned Pretty has been a rollercoaster, full of highs, lows, and pure chaos for the Cousins Beach gang. We’ve had love, betrayal, cheating, and friendship — basically everything except compassion for Conrad. And after yesterday’s episode, people are fuming. They slammed episode nine, and now Jenny Han herself has responded.

So, basically, after Jeremiah broke off the wedding, Belly decided to pack up and head to Paris. After episode eight, loads of people thought we’d finally get some real Bonrad content. Instead, Jenny Han had something completely different in store.

Jenny Han is facing backlash over episode nine

Episode nine focused on Belly rebuilding her life after the wedding fell apart. But people weren’t happy. Many called it a filler episode, with one person writing, “This episode could have been an email.”

The frustration isn’t just about pacing. Viewers feel the season has highlighted Jeremiah’s selfishness while unfairly punishing Conrad. Yes, they’re all still young and make mistakes. But Conrad, who openly struggles with anxiety and depression, continues to shoulder the hate. Meanwhile, characters who’ve cheated or betrayed others seem to walk away without consequences.

Jenny Han’s latest Instagram post was quickly flooded with backlash. People accused her of showing little empathy for the one character suffering most.

One person commented, “Conrad Fisher, I’m sorry your own writer can’t let you be happy for once.” Another complained, “Jenny? What was today’s episode, girl? That was a filler episode and an AirTag and Gatorade ad.” And another said, “It’s actually heartbreaking and frustrating to see how things have played out for Conrad. Jeremiah has yet to take any accountability for his choices, and that’s absolutely disgusting.”

Now Jenny Han has responded to the backlash. When one person wrote, “Jenny we don’t have time for this, there are TWO episodes left and you gave us nothing,” Jenny replied, “I gave you the last four years of my life. I have given all I have to give. Enjoy!”

Jenny has warned us before that the ending of The Summer I Turned Pretty won’t be neat. She’s made it clear that someone will get hurt. Now, with only two weeks left until the finale, people are still clinging to the hope that Belly will choose her book endgame.

Honestly, I just hope the next episode finally gives Conrad the justice he deserves.
