How to survive Cardiff Uni Freshers’ Week based on your star sign
Unfortunately, not a single sign will mean you can avoid Freshers’ Flu
Cardiff Freshers’ Week is pure chaos. Cramming your clothes into the Talybont North wardrobes, dirty fridays at The Taf, and the unavoidable arrival of Freshers’ Flu. It’s all a rite of passage.
But how you survive (and thrive) depends a little on your star sign. Here’s how to make it through Cardiff Freshers’, based on your horoscope.
If you’re looking to avoid Freshers’ Flu, this may not be the guide for you, but if you just want to make sure you have the slightest chance of actually attending your 9am lectures the following week, we’ve got you covered.
Aries
Freshers’ Week is basically a competitive sport, which works out well for you! You’ll most likely be the first to sign up for five different society trials and the last one standing on a night out. However, not everything has to be a competition, so don’t let those tendencies take over.
Your immune system should have your back this month, but pack some Lemsip anyway – Freshers’ Flu is no joke.
If you’re single, you might attract someone equally as bold as you are. However, astrologists advise you to choose maturity over intensity this month. Basically, avoid rugby boys.
Taurus
As an earth element, you’ll appreciate the beautiful landscapes and views that Cardiff has to offer.
When Freshers’ gets a bit too much, a walk in Bute Park or popping to Cardiff Castle will do wonders. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, drag some mates to Brecon for the waterfalls or a sunrise hike up Garth Mountain.
@thisis.cassie Swapping blue light for golden hour. One of my favourite walks in south wales – Gwaelod-y-Garth. Only a 10 minute drive out of Cardiff and around an hour up and down – it made the perfect post office workout this week 🏔️🌄🏴 #cardiff #visitcardiff #southwales #visitsouthwales #thingstodoinsouthwales #hotgirlwalk #cardiffuni #southwalesblogger #cardiffblogger
You’ll meet a ton of people during your first year at university, so be open to stepping into new social circles that may feel unexpected.
Most Read
Home and family environments will remain important to you, so cultivate a sense of routine and wellbeing in your space that will ease the homesickness.
Gemini
Geminis thrive on social chaos, so Freshers’ Week is basically your olympics. You’ll have no problem making new friends at Taly South pres or Cardiff SU icebreaker events.
September is all about trying new things and there’s plenty of options in Cardiff! Join a new sport, pick up a new hobby, or start a side project. Freshers’ is the perfect time.
Cancer
Cancers are known for being strongly connected to their emotions, so harness this and use it as a way to battle through the whirlwind of Freshers’ Week feelings.
This month, your voice and space matters, so speak your needs gently but clearly to flatmates and friends. Create a space, both literally and emotionally, that feels like home. Some fairy lights can go a long way!
Leo
As one of the most confident astrological signs, you’ll thrive in the chaos and carnage of Freshers’.
We know you don’t shy away from the spotlight, so soak up the opportunity to dance until Angels at YOLO and socialise with thousands of new people. Everyone will know who you are within a week (for better or worse).
That said, maybe turn down the music at 4am – annoying your neighbours before lectures even start isn’t ideal. Let go of the pressure to “do everything” perfectly, Freshers’ is about enjoying yourself!
Virgo
This month is your ‘cosmic glow-up’. You’ll have your uni room looking like a Pinterest board within 24 hours, but try not to obsess over having the “perfect” first week. Things will fall into place if you let them.
Relationships wise, old connections might fade, but new ones could light up like the neon Misfits sign. Maybe it’s time to say goodbye to that summer situationship and start exploring new connections.
Libra
Intelligent, kind, and always willing to put others before themselves, Libras will be your best friends at uni. As a Libra, you’ll thrive as you enter your season.
Set up a routine early and you’ll thank yourself later! Aim to balance lectures, nights out, and self-care. Freshers’ will be chaotic, so prioritise wellbeing and balance that social energy for long-term wins.
Scorpio
Passionate, assertive and slightly intimidating, Scorpios should expect people to be drawn to them at pres, whether you’re leading the group or delivering some sharp one liners.
Great leaders and guides, your Freshers’ week will include all the best Cardiff has to offer if you have a Scorpio in your group.
This month, all the changes around community and friendships will be a lot to process. Listen to your gut – if you need a quiet night in with a Deliveroo, take it. Freshers’ will still be there tomorrow (along with the hangover).
Sagittarius
If your star sign is Sagittarius, you’re known for being generous, idealistic and having a great sense of humour (expect lots of laughs at afters). Flexibility and adaptability will ensure a smooth transition into Freshers’ chaos, although you most likely won’t take this first week too seriously.
Russh has speculated that this month, opportunity will line up like arrows on a bowstring for all those born between late November and late December. Cardiff is full of surprises, so explore them all. Just keep an eye on your bank balance when you’re considering that “one last pint”.
Capricorn
As the responsible, disciplined and controlled astrological sign, you’ll hit Freshers’ with full force as a Capricorn.
You’re the one who somehow manages to get to your 9am and make it to every night out, which we respect. Your drive and determination means you’ll fly through Freshers’, whether you’re leading the party or the study group.
This month, confidence rises and your words carry weight. Maybe that’s offering advice, maybe it’s starting great conversations. Maybe it’s joining The Cardiff Tab!
Aquarius
As a water sign, an Aquarius is often mistaken for an emotional mess, but that isn’t entirely true. Although maybe expect a couple tears on move-in day!
Freshers’ will throw plenty of shared-space chaos that way (communal kitchens, bathroom politics), so protect your energy and pick your battles. Say no to things that don’t serve you!
Pisces
For Pisces, the move from home to uni may feel overwhelming, but your optimism and strength will help you push through. As the compassionate and gentle astrological sign, a Pisces flat mate will make the perfect uni therapist.
Old memories, encounters, and choices may resurface. Perhaps an old situationship will start typing on snap (we recommend to not text back). Think carefully before responding; the past may reappear as the present takes shape, so take a minute to think about how you want to move forward.
By the end of Freshers’ you’ll probably be skint, slightly ill, and running on less sleep than you thought humanly possible. But you’ll also have a ton of stories, new mates, and the start of a whole new chapter.
