Guys, TikTok has added two new features to DMs and they’re both game-changers

Things just got a lot more fun

TikTok messaging has been available for the past five years. Currently, you can send TikToks to your friends and funny reaction GIFs. But the newest TikTok DM update has added some fun new features to spice up your chats.

So, what exactly are the new TikTok DM features?

Just like on Instagram, TikTok now lets you send voice notes! They can be up to one minute long. So now, when your friends send you hundreds of TikToks to react to, you can give a full breakdown of your thoughts without having to sit there typing for ages.

To use the voice notes feature, just open your TikTok DMs with any friend, then press and hold on the microphone icon in the chat box, next to the sticker. Be careful, though, because as soon as you let go, your voice note is sent.

As well as voice notes, TikTok now lets you send pictures and videos over DM. You can send up to nine at a time, and only to people who follow you back. Both these new features work for TikTok group messaging too – get ready for your group chats to become a lot more chaotic.

This update comes after the successful picture comments feature, which has made TikTok comment sections somehow even funnier.

There are loads of ways to make things safer on TikTok DMs

If you want to avoid getting creepy DMs from strangers, it’s really easy to limit who can message you on TikTok. Just go to Settings, then Privacy. Scroll down till you see Direct Messages. Here, you can stop anyone who you don’t follow from even requesting to message you.

TikTok DMs are automatically not available for anyone under the age of 16. For people aged 16-18, there’s a filter to stop either side sending anything potentially inappropriate.
