Influencer mum slammed for filming baby ‘apologising’ to plane passengers after flight

An influencer mum has been slammed online after sharing a video of her five-month-old baby “apologising” to passengers on a long-haul flight.

Hannah Chestnut, a UK-based parenting influencer with over a million followers on her Instagram account The Mum Crew, posted a clip showing her baby daughter Ava smiling at passengers as they disembarked a flight from London to Atlanta. In the video, Ava’s dad held her while she smiled at people passing by.

Hannah captioned the video, saying, “We told her she had to apologise for everyone face-to-face for what she put them through on that flight.”

Speaking to Newsweek, Hannah said that Ava actually “did surprisingly well” on the flight. She explained that Ava was smiling at the passengers while the family waited for their pram. So she decided to film it as if the baby was saying sorry to everyone. She added, “Ironically, on the flight after the one in the video, Ava was super loud and upset, that was the flight we really should’ve filmed!”

Since Hannah posted the video on Instagram, it has gone viral with nearly 7 million views. While some viewers found the video cute and relatable, many were far less amused.

One person said, “I’ll never apologise for a baby being a baby.” Another joked that Ava looked like she was thinking, “I’ll do it again, watch this.”

However, the backlash was strong. Many people were unhappy about the influencer filming strangers without permission. One person wrote, “Stop filming strangers for content without their consent.” Another complained, “No one wanted this, they just wanted you to move off the walkway so they could leave.” Someone else even called her “selfish” for sharing the video.

Although Hannah hasn’t responded to the negative comments, she said she’s enjoyed watching the video go viral. She never expected such a simple moment to get so much attention so quickly.
