Legal troubles and alleged racism: All of Justin and Hailey Bieber’s biggest scandals

Justin and Hailey Bieber have been the most talked-about couple in the world of pop culture ever since their engagement in 2018.

The couple dated briefly from 2014 to 2016 and reunited in 2018. Since then they’ve gotten married and also had a baby.

However, more recently, they have been in the headlines for multiple controversies. 

From alarming social media posts to accusations of “mean girl” behaviours, here are some scandals involving the Biebers throughout the years.

Justin Bieber’s online activity recently has raised multiple concerns among his followers. In the past few months Justin has indulged in multiple photo dumps on a daily basis and some say at this point it’s just “shitposting.” Such as, on 21st April 2025, Justin posted a series of images of what looked like him and Hailey arguing.

These posts have gained comments from followers such as “Hailey has got to be God’s strongest warrior”, and “What is going on with them, are they fine?” from followers. 

Additionally, concerns about Justin’s health increased when he shared a video of himself and a friend rapping on a private jet about getting “high,” just days after his agency denied rumours of the 31-year-old pop star consuming illegal drugs.

This incident, along with his association with P Diddy and the ongoing lawsuit, have increased worries about his well-being.

Hailey’s allegedly racist tweets

However, Hailey Bieber has had an equally tarnished image in the past. 

Hailey has been called out for allegedly making racist comments multiple times on various social media platforms.

One of her tweets from November 2013 reads: “To those foreigners who don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, so sorry your country didn’t have Pilgrims or Indians to start such a sick holiday.”

Another tweet she’s faced backlash for is from 2012, saying: “Shut up before I smack you back to your own country.”

Hailey’s ‘copying’ controversy

Additionally, Hailey has faced accusations of “copying” Selena Gomez.

In April 2025, she gave a speech at a Rhode event which was criticised by multiple people online for being similar to the one Selena Gomez gave at her Rare Beauty event in 2021.

“When I started Rhode, I didn’t want to start a brand for the sake of starting a brand. I really wanted to create an entire world,” she said

Whilst Selena’s speech read: “I didn’t want to launch a makeup line for the sake to launch a brand. What interests me is cultivating beauty from the inside.”

Following this, social media users labelled Hailey as a “creepy stalker”.

Online scrutiny

More recently, the Biebers have faced other challenges, with multiple online sources claiming that tensions between the couple have escalated. 

In May 2025, Justin publicly “apologised” to Hailey in an Instagram post celebrating her Vogue cover, but the apology itself became a scandal.

He wrote: “Yo this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight, I told Hails that she would never be on the cover of Vogue. Yikes I know, so mean. For some reason because I felt so disrespected I thought I gotta get even.”

Fans widely criticised the comment as “disrespectful” and “nasty”. Many even questioned why Hailey is still with Justin. 

One user commented: “Justin that is a RUDE and DISGUSTING thing to say to your wife. You aren’t hot btw. Disrespecting a woman like that? Red flag.”

Another user added: “No words. That man would never see me again or he would never see the light of day again.”

He has now changed the Instagram post’s caption.

Hailey also recently posted a picture of her vacation captioning it: “Lemon drop martinis and therapy all summer long”.

Her followers were quick to comment, with one user writing: “When are you going to get Justin into therapy and let him know that Jesus will never leave him nor forsake him?”

Hailey has now removed the word “therapy” from her post and followers are confused as to why she even posted it. However, it still remains unchanged on Facebook.

Additionally, there have been multiple videos of the couple doing the rounds on internet platforms. One of them is a video where Justin walks away from Hailey at the red carpet while posing for the photos. Another is a video of Hailey running after Justin, after tripping and falling over in pursuit of him. 

Egging, DUI, and paparazzi altercations

However, these recent incidents are just a few in a long history of controversies for Justin Bieber.

Over the years, he has faced legal troubles, including vandalism charges for egging a neighbour’s house (resulting in an $80,000 restitution in 2014), a DUI arrest in Miami (2014), and public altercations with paparazzi.

In 2013, he famously urinated in a mop bucket while shouting “Fuck Bill Clinton,” and in 2014, a video surfaced of him telling a racist joke and using racial slurs. 

However, while both Justin and Hailey have publicly attempted to present a united image, the ongoing scandals continue to paint a negative narrative. 

Justin and Hailey Bieber’s representatives have been contacted for comment but have not yet replied.
