This is not RuPaul’s Best Friend Race: All the wildest Drag Race feuds over the years

My standout fight? Vivacious beefing with her zip during her Werk Room entrance

Over the years, RuPaul’s Drag Race has blessed us with some wholesome moments, blossoming friendships, and outlandish outfits that will forever be a part of drag legacy. Things aren’t always as cheery as they might seem though. We’ve seen enough shade being thrown during All Stars 10 this year, and it’s totally got me thinking about the cattiest fights, feuds and fumbles that have gone on between past and present queens.

The earlier seasons were jam packed with drama, but it hasn’t come to a complete halt just yet. Here’s your comprehensive breakdown of every Drag Race feud that sent waves through the internet, from the early days right on through to recent seasons. Strap yourself in, because it’s about to be a wild ride.

Lashauwn Beyond and Jiggly Caliente’s ‘Best Friend Race’ zinger

If you ask any Drag Race fan about on screen feuds, Lashauwn and Jiggly are bound to get a mention. It may be a bit of a relic nowadays, but the drama was piping hot back in 2012. These two queens definitely broke down the RuPaul’s Best Friend Race boundaries back in season four, where tensions rose in the Werk Room when Lashauwn Beyond and Jiggly Caliente decided to go at each other over their runway looks.

What started as harsh bickering over Jiggly and Sharon Needles’ sewing skills quickly escalated into a full blown battle – the queens even brought Beyoncè into it. That speaks volumes. Lashauwn Beyond chipped in to criticise Jiggly’s makeup, coined the iconic Best Friend Race line, and dipped. A power move, if you will.

Sharon Needles and Phi Phi O’Hara’s ‘Party City’ spat

We’re throwing it back to 2012 with one of the most iconic, quotable feuds in Drag Race history. The Werk Room was getting heated again in the same season, when Sharon Needles and Phi Phi O’Hara butted heads over a dramatic win on the runway. Phi Phi wasn’t a fan of the fact the “gothic look” she pulled for the challenge ended up in Sharon stealing the win – pretty valid, if you ask me.

The only relief of the feud between these queens was the birth of the famous “go back to Party City where you belong” quip, which has totally hit the wall and stuck for every long standing Drag Race fan out there. Phi Phi famously had beef with multiple queens during her season, including Alyssa Edwards. Yikes.

Coco Montrese and Alyssa Edwards pageant redemption feud

Speaking of Alyssa Edwards, it wasn’t just Phi Phi O’Hara that was dragged into some on-set drama. The shady past between Alyssa and Coco Montrese was shoved under the limelight that season. They competed in Miss Gay America pageant together back in 2010, where Alyssa Edwards was shockingly dethroned of her winner’s crown, which was then handed over to runner-up Coco. It translated terribly during their lip sync battle – whether they were both on a bit of a redemption arc, we don’t even know.

The energy was palpable, and both queens gave it their all to truly tear each other down. They had some sporadic fights here and there before their beef fell short, but I’m sure the anger was still boiling backstage.

BenDeLaCreme and Darienne Lake’s personality clash

via YouTube

In my eyes, 2014 was a golden age for Drag Race. Iconic queens, a memorable Snatch Game, and standout feuds meant the drama was really at its peak. The shade thrown between these two got pretty intense in season six. RuPaul questioned their working relationship during a design challenge and was met by a stuttering Darienne Lake, who clearly had some not-so-secret hatred brewing for BenDeLaCreme. Outwardly declaring that “opposites do attract” in front of RuPaul? That’s the start of a fiery battle, to say the least.

Although fans thought their lip sync battle was a bit on the lackluster side, you could’ve cut the tension on that stage with a lipstick. Brutal.

Derrick Barry and Naomi Smalls’ wig glue rivalry

via YouTube

Reeling it back into recent times now, season eight viewers watched the eruption one of the show’s most intense rivalry storylines between Derrick Barry and Naomi Smalls. Where did it come from? Who even knows.

The cattiness between these two was like something we’d never seen before – Derrick claimed she was picked on throughout her season of Drag Race as Naomi Smalls had a knack for throwing some wild comments around the Werk Room. At one point, Naomi called out Derrick for her thinning hair, who then clapped back by telling Naomi her drag career would flourish if she actually learnt how to glue her wigs down. Combine that with the brutal comments from the puppet episode, and you’ve got a pretty tense feud on your hands.

Silky Nutmeg Ganache and Yvie Oddly’s ‘talentless’ shade

via YouTube

Silky Nutmeg Ganache has literally admitted that she didn’t “f*ck with” Yvie Oddly on Drag Race. I feel like that tells you everything you need to know about their feud. Just as the queens started to get more outlandish, creative, and downright hilarious, season 11 was overshadowed by personal drama. Yvie had no shame in throwing some wild takes around the Werk Room, directed right at Silky. Obviously.

Yvie called Silky “talentless” in a bit of an intense clash. Their personalities seemed to be just as abrasive as each others’, but Silky lost the majority vote from Drag Race fans when she claimed Yvie should’ve been eliminated following her unfortunate ankle injury. The cherry on top of it all? Yvie also called Silky a “basic b*tch” after the season ended. A wild move.

We all know not to take these feuds as gospel though. Most of the queens have kissed and made up after their seasons have aired, so all is good in the world. Nobody’s saying no to a bit of reality drama though, right?

Alyssa Edwards and Jade Jolie’s iconic ‘back rolls’ beef

Should we shine the light back onto Alyssa Edwards for a hot second? Each season of Drag Race Untucked provided some absolute gems, including a third season four feud when Jade Jolie called out Alyssa Edwards and her um, back rolls?

The showrunners fuelled the fire between the two queens by promoting the iconic #ShouldersShouldMatchThemHips hashtag slap bang in the middle of their angsty spat. Alyssa reacted in an unexpectedly emotional way, which was very much unlike her at the time. Jade’s reading only proved that Alyssa was nothing short of a problematic queen in her own special way – it went completely viral too, bless her.
