Here’s how old the cast of Modern Family are now, compared to their characters in the finale

While it seems like yesterday we were watching the lights go out on the Modern Family houses, the popular sitcom finished over five years ago.

With half of the cast initially comprising of child actors, viewers truly felt they watched the cast grow up over the decade the show spanned. The Modern Family cast ages are now five years older than the show’s finale in 2020. But after 11 seasons, they each changed quite a lot.

So, how have the actors aged following the 250 episodes of the show? Here are the Modern Family cast ages now, compared to their character ages in the finale.

Jay – Ed O’Neill

The patriarch of the family, Jay Pritchett, was 71 in the final season of the show. In real life, Ed O’Neill is 79, making him slightly older than the founder of Pritchett’s closets and Dog Beds by Stella.

Gloria – Sofia Vergara

Jay’s wife, Gloria, was 47 in the final season with Sofia Vergara turning 53 next year. This means she was actually a similar age to her character during filming.

Manny – Rico Rodriguez

Manny, Gloria’s sophisticated and perhaps slightly annoying son, was 19 at the end of the show. In comparison, Rico Rodriguez is now 26 years old. Childhood stardom clearly runs in the Rodriguez family as his older sister, Raini, is known for her role on Austin & Ally.

The youngest member of the Pritchett/Dunphy/Tucker clan, Joe was just five years old as the show concluded. The actor who played Joe, Jeremy Maguire, is currently 13 years old.

Phil – Ty Burrell

Everyone’s favourite TV Dad, Phil Dunphy was 49 when we said goodbye to his Phil’s-Osophy. In real life, Ty Burrell is now 57 but still radiates fun dad energy.

Claire – Julie Bowen

The yin to Phil’s yang, Claire was 48 in the show’s finale. Julie Bowen, who played the no-nonsense mother, is now 55.

Haley – Sarah Hyland

Haley was 25 when she experienced being a mother of twins during the final season. In real life, she is now 34 and has been married to Wells Adams for almost three years.

Alex – Ariel Winter

Despite Haley and Alex only having a three year age gap in the show, Sarah is almost eight years older than Ariel. In the finale, Alex was 22 when she decided to move to Switzerland, with Ariel Winter now being 27.

Luke – Nolan Gould

Phil and Claire’s only son, Luke, was 20 when the show wrapped up. Nolan Gould shared his character’s age at this time and is currently 26. However, unlike his character, Nolan is a member of MENSA with an alleged IQ of 150.

Mitchell – Jesse Tyler Ferguson

Mitchell agreed to move to Missouri for his husband Cam at the age of 45. In real life, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is currently 49.

Cam – Eric Stonestreet

Slightly older than his husband, Cam was 46 during season 11. But in real life, Eric Stonestreet is 53, putting a larger age gap between the actors playing the couple.

Lily – Aubrey Anderson-Emmons

While Lily may have been recast from the original twins playing her as a baby, Aubrey was part of the show for nine years having joined at just four years old. By the end of the show, Lily was 13, beginning her teenage era, whereas Aubrey has recently turned 18. Putting her fame to good use, the actress has amassed over 2.6 million followers on TikTok.
