People are spiralling after spotting same deliberate error in every Black Mirror episode
‘Legit thought I was losing my mind’
Black Mirror viewers have noticed a deliberate error throughout much of season seven, and while Netflix has yet to comment on the strange phenomenon, it looks like it was a deliberate and mysterious choice.
We’re back, baby! Black Mirror season seven has returned to its roots, and with it, maybe the best instalment in the franchise since season four in 2016. Though its killer cast is obviously partly responsible, Charlie Brooker really pulled out all the stops for season seven with countless easter eggs, nods to previous episodes, and some of the most jarring plot lines in years.
Recently, people spotted what they thought was an error in Bête Noire, but it actually turned out to be a deliberate Mandela effect from Netflix – cheeky buggers. Now it seems there might be another.
People spotted the so-called error in at least four Black Mirror episodes
People on TikTok and Reddit thought they were going crazy after spotting numerous instances of blurring and pixelisation across multiple episodes of Black Mirror season seven. Naturally, they took to social media with their findings and found other people who also thought they were losing it.
“I’ve been watching Black Mirror Season seven and noticed something weird that I wanted to share and get your thoughts on. In the three episodes I’ve seen so far, there’s this deliberate blurring effect where the picture goes fuzzy for about a second and then sharpens up again,” one person on Reddit explained.

“It almost feels like they’re simulating the kind of buffering or streaming glitches you get on services like Netflix, but I’ve tested it thoroughly, and it’s not an issue with my device or internet—it’s definitely an added effect in the show!”
Specifically, they noticed two instances in Common people, one moment in Bête Noire, and another one in episode three’s Hotel Reverie.
“It adds an extra layer of immersion (or maybe meta-commentary on tech dependence?), but it’s bugging me a bit. Is it intentional storytelling, or am I missing something?” they added.
@lecheeese Noticed this pixelation happening while watching S7E1 of Black Mirror (Common People). Had to rewind to check if it was just my internet. Really brings you back to the reality of HEY, You Are Watching This On A SUBSCRIPTION On NETFLIX. Loved it. #blackmirror #blackmirrorseason7 #commonpeople
People in the comments also noticed the bizarre pixelation, with one penning: “It’s driving me crazy honestly, but yeah I’ve noticed it in the first two episodes. In common people, I thought it was my phone, but in Bête Noire, it only blurred a specific spot, so that’s when I realised it’s intentional.”
“Happens on USS Callister: Infinity as well. Approx 41:25. I always watch stuff with subtitles on, it does it on them as well. Legit thought I was losing my mind lolol,” another said.
People on TikTok also noticed some pixelisation in Common People, as one person confessed: “I got the pixelation in the exact same spot and wanted to check if it was just my wifi so I went back and rewatched the past 10 seconds and it was fine after that, that’s crazy.”
All in all blurring was noticed in all episodes besides Eulogy. It’s yet to be revealed why Netflix is deliberately making your screen look like it’s buffering, but I have approached the streaming site for comment. We will get to the bottom of this.
