Terrifying videos circulate showing exact moment helicopter fatally crashes into Hudson River

A number of terrifying videos are circulating showing the exact moment a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in New York. The crash killed all six people who were onboard.

New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed the helicopter was operated by New York Helicopters, and crashed into the river at 3.17pm Eastern Time yesterday (April 10th). Officials were alerted to the situation, and by 5.15pm, search and rescue efforts were concluded. It was confirmed everyone onboard had sadly passed away.

The victims of the flight have been identified as the pilot, and Siemens executive Agustín Escobar, along with his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children. The children were aged 11, five and four. The family were believed to have been on a sightseeing trip in the city.

Now, videos are being posted which show the exact moment of impact into the river. Warning: Some of the videos you may find upsetting.

One video described how “the chopper’s propeller was seen detached from the helicopter, spinning into the water.” In the clip you can see part of the helicopter come off. It then shows the helicopter hit the water from another angle.

Another shows the tragic aftermath of what happened. Filming from nearby, you can see part of the wreckage floating on the water. “Helicopter crashed in Hudson! The chopper broke off midair and dropped,” the video is captioned.

The person who posted this video gave an interview and described what they saw. “I don’t know what happened to the tail, but it just straight-up dropped. It dropped feet away from Holland Tunnel, and I can’t imagine if it hit it,” Avi Rakesh said to NBC.

New York police department commissioner, Jessica Tisch said the aircraft “lost control and hit the water”. According to NBC, the helicopter lost control shortly after it turned at the George Washington Bridge to move along the New Jersey shoreline.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
