Daley Thompson called out for ‘transphobic’ tweets after Big Brother clash with Danny Beard

It was only the highlights episode of the first day in the Celebrity Big Brother house after the entrances, and there are already brewings of a clash between Daley Thompson and Danny Beard after a comment that was taken the wrong way. After Danny Beard mistakenly thought Mickey Rourke was talking to them, Daley made a comment saying “it’s all about you, Danny – it’s all about you”. Danny was clearly rattled by the comment, whilst also questioning if Daley was saying it in a negative way – and since the Celebrity Big Brother clash, a load of Daley’s posts on Twitter / X have resurfaced where he has been accused of ‘transphobic’ views after supporting JK Rowling and writing a controversial article on trans people in sport in 2023.

‘I feel like he’s a bit wary of me’

During the episode last night, it was shown that Danny Beard mistakenly thought Mickey Rourke was talking to them instead of JoJo Siwa – and when Mickey corrected Danny, Daley Thompson said “Not everything is about you.”

After this comment, Danny confided in Donna Preston about the situation, saying “I’m overthinking it. I’m gonna totally make an effort with him tomorrow, that’s it.”

Danny then went into the diary room and said “I think I’ve tried to make an effort with everybody, but I heard Daley make a comment like, ‘Well, not everything revolves around you’ and, I don’t know if I’m overthinking it…

“I can sense or I feel like he’s a bit wary of me, and that’s fine because maybe I’m also a little bit wary of him.”

A picture resurfaced showing Daley Thompson in a t-shirt with a message many have deemed to be anti trans on it after the episode. As well as this, a tweet he posted in October 2024 supporting JK Rowling – another in the public eye who has been deemed by many as having transphobic views.

Daley tweeted Rowling in response to a negative post she’d tweeted about transgender woman India Willoughby, saying “JK, if I may be so familiar, I do wonder why you give them the oxygen they are so desperate  for but I am so so glad you do. It’s a kick in the balls every time.”

The backlash towards these posts from fans of Celebrity Big Brother have been immensely critical of Daley Thompson and supportive of Danny Beard.

One said that it was “f*cked up” to have him in the house alongside openly queer celebs like Danny Beard and JoJo Siwa.

In 1984, Daley Thompson previously had backlash for a homophobic t-shirt that read “is the world’s second best athlete gay”. It was believed at the time to be a dig at Carl Lewis, the US sprinter, who was facing speculation and rumours about his sexuality. Daley Thompson responded saying “could be anybody, Carl Lewis, anybody”.
