Gemma Owen is getting dragged for debuting a new posh accent at the races

This is an entirely different voice from what we heard in Love Island

How do you describe a Chester accent? To be honest, it’s a bit of a hard one to place. Because Chester and its surrounding areas border places like North Wales and the Wirral – it’s a soft mix between words that occasionally sound a bit Scouse (ish) and then also have a Cheshire northern twang too. Gemma Owen has, or shall I say, HAD, quite a classic Chester accent when we awoke her on Love Island in 2022. Well, she debuted a brand new accent at the races over the weekend and now Gemma Owen is getting dragged in the comments for a completely different vibe of posh.

Worse still, she slips up at one point – which doesn’t really help the proceedings very much.

New accent unlocked

Gemma Owen hasn’t really been at the forefront of the reality TV circuit since her time on the show and her split from Luca Bish – so we haven’t really clocked her speaking that much. That’s why when she did a video with the Mirror at Cheltenham dressed up to the nines the posh accent really jumped OUT.

“I’m really excited for today,” She says. “The weather is so beautiful. I was here on Wednesday so second time this week. Fingers crossed for a beautiful day. I’ve not got any tips right now, my dad gave me a few tips on Wednesday but none of them came in so I’m going to stick with the names and the colours of the horses.”

She then makes a minor blunder with the accent when talking through her outfit, saying “head to too” instead of “head to toe.”

I actually kind of stan Gemma Owen and liked her on Love Island and I support her right to use a silly little posh accent at the races – one comment calls it “her phone voice”. Others are more ruthless. A lot of people call her slip up on head to toe a fall out of the accent she’s faking.

The main theme people are clocking her for though is how different her accent is from Love Island. A lot can happen in three years guys! Should have heard my Stockport accent evolve into Scouse after three years at uni in Liverpool.
