One of Running Point’s main filming locations is 5,000 miles from LA where it’s set

It’s the only part of the Netflix show not filmed in California

Running Point has quickly become one of Netflix’s biggest shows, and the sports comedy uses a very random filming location.

Based on a true story, it’s about a party girl who has to prove herself as a businesswoman when she’s put in charge of her family’s pro basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves.

The show is mostly filmed in LA to make it as authentic as possible, with locations like the UCLA Health Training Center, Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Los Angeles Athletic Club.

However, eagle-eyed watchers may have noticed that the Waves’ stadium isn’t actually in California at all – it’s in Scotland!

When they show the outside of the stadium, that’s the OVO Hydro arena in Glasgow, which is primarily a music venue.

This year, Sabrina Carpenter, Tyler, The Creator, Billie Eilish and Katy Perry are all playing there.

They’ve used clever editing to turn it into the fictional home of the Los Angeles Waves, with orange and blue squares and even a fake Microsoft ad on the top.

Other than that, the show was entirely shot in Los Angeles, which boss David Stassen said was a real privilege.

“It’s become a privilege more than an expectation to shoot in LA and I’m very grateful to Warner Bros. and Netflix that we got to do it in LA,” he told the Hollywood Reporter.

“And now, more than ever, we need it. We just need it. We need to make it more possible. LA is hurting after the fires, the strikes and COVID, so we have to shoot more in LA.”

“The state has to do whatever it has to do to make it more feasible. It puts people to work, and it benefits the entire community. It just makes the city, and everyone’s lives in it, better.”

He said it “wouldn’t be right” to do it anywhere else and urged California’s governor Gavin Newsom to make it more feasible for productions to be fimed there.
