Cristobal Diaz Martinez taught urban planning at UCL


A PhD student at University College London (UCL) was sadly found dead in his home in Oxford.

Cristobal Diaz Martinez was found at his home on John Towle Close in the New Hinskey area of south Oxford on 18th February. A paramedic confirmed his death. He was 37 years old.

Cristobal started his PhD in planning studies at The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment at UCL in 2019. He also worked as a teaching assistant at the uni. He taught global politics to undergraduate students, as well as urbanisation modules to postgrad students.

Cristobal Diaz Martinez previously studied at the University of Santiago in Chile. A campaign to return Cristobal to Chile is being shared on social media.

An inquest into Cristobal’s death was opened on 26th February at Oxford Coroners Court. A full inquest will take place on 27th May.
