Omg, people have cracked why Dave is ruining things with Lauren and it’s super shady

People on TikTok have cracked the code behind Dave’s strange 360 moment with Lauren in season eight of Netflix’s Love Is Blind, and considering what we know about his type, this theory could hold up in court.

David Bettenburg is already shaping up to be the biggest red flag of season eight, in part because of his certain style of humour – that’s a polite way of saying he’s rude and arrogant. Nonetheless, he managed to find a match with timid teacher Lauren O’Brien after swatting away the advances of NBA dancer Molly Rose Mullaney.

But, now that they’ve actually met one another in person and are working out the logistics of their relationship, Dave seems to be withdrawing from the romance altogether. He claims it’s because of Lauren’s relationship history with someone in his circle, but the internet has some other theories.

In the earlier episodes of season eight, David was torn between his current fiance Lauren and former NBA dancer Molly Molly Rose Mullaney. I’m no David and Lauren apologist – in fact, I struggle to watch them on my Netflix screen – but the latest episodes saw him almost purposefully tank his relationship over Lauren’s love interests before the show. It was difficult to watch.

It’s all very strange and doesn’t really make sense, but now people on TikTok and Reddit have worked out the real reason he’s doing it. It all comes back to Molly.

Essentially, people believe that upon getting his phone back, David looked up Molly on Instagram and became disillusioned from his current relationship because – as the Love Islanders would put it – she’s “his type on paper.” Throughout the pods David said this himself, constantly warring between his usual type (Molly) and wanting to break bad habits with a woman he wouldn’t usually go for (Lauren).

On TikTok, one person said: “This man 110 per cent got his phone back, went and seen what Molly looked like, decided he made a mistake by choosing Lauren and he created this whole false narrative of her having an entire boyfriend before she came on the show. This man is making this up instead of just being a man and saying ‘I messed up’.”

“So Dave got his phone back… sees a photo of Molly and now he’s making excuses to get out of the engagement?” another person said.

Someone else wrote on Reddit: “He is a huge gaslighter with no accountability. He talked circles around breaking up with Molly in the pods so he didn’t look like the bad guy. And here with Lauren, he is trying to do the same thing. And every time she tries to defend herself it’s ‘my friends said…’ or ‘my sister says…’ or ‘my family says…’ it’s never his own thoughts. He is trying to trick her into doing the dumping so he can say that she chose to leave and not that he left her.”

I’m not usually the tin foil hat-wearing type, but this theory got some legs.
