Grace said her face really ‘puffed up’ on Love Island and a doctor has revealed why

Grace always looks totally unreal on Love Island All Stars, but she felt pretty insecure after leaving the villa the first time around.

She said her face really “puffed up” in the villa and she couldn’t understand why, because it definitely wasn’t down to her cosmetic work.

“I remember when I came off the show, I felt like I had a lot of water in my face. I felt like I put on weight,” she told aesthetics doctor Dr Rosh.

“What was that? Because I looked at an interview of me and my face looked like it puffed up. Everyone said it was filler and I’m not full of filler.”

“I remember looking at myself and I felt like a pufferfish,” the 26-year-old continued.

Grace said as soon as she got home, it all disappeared and her face returned to normal, but why did it happen?

Well, Dr Rosh explained it’s actually a very normal thing that can happen to anyone and it’s down to one thing: the temperature.

“When you go somewhere hot, I saw it transition through the days, you fluid retained,” he said.

The hot weather causes something called heat edema, which is when the blood vessels expand, allowing fluid to leak into the surrounding tissues. 

It most commonly occurs in the hands and legs, but it can also happen in the face too.

“Everyone’s gonna think it’s filler but it’s not,” he added. “You haven’t had cheek filler. It’s a lymphatic drainage issue.”

The doctor explained that you can never stop it from happening completely, but using a Gua Sha tool and icing your face can both help.

Not everyone gets heat edema, which is why some people may look different in the heat while others don’t.
