Raegan Revord forced to follow strict Young Sheldon rule until she was involved in car crash

Raegan Revord played the role of Missy on Young Sheldon, but it turns out there was one major set rule she was forced to follow until she was involved in a traumatic car crash.

Throughout the first four years of the show, Raegan would constantly ask the producers if she was allowed to cut her hair, but every time they would refuse. As such Missy had the exact same haircut for six seasons as the producers didn’t want to upset audiences by suddenly changing an integral part of the character.

However, in 2023 Raegan Revord was involved in a serious car crash whilst her mum was driving her to film for Young Sheldon.

It’s something that still impacts her, as she told People: “I still have panic attacks sometimes, having to get in the car or [when] someone else who’s driving hits their brakes quickly. You feel your heart speed up and even though you’re fine physically, it just does stick with you.”

As a result, though, the producers of Young Sheldon allowed her to change her hair to help her through recovery following the accident.

Raegan described the moment to Entertainment Tonight, recalling: “They called me over and they were like, ‘Hey, we have some news for you.’

“And then my hair person walks in and I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no, no. This is not happening!’ This is not happening!’

“And they were like, ‘You get to cut your hair.’ And now I have short hair and I’m so happy. I love it so much.”

As for why the rule was even enforced for Raegan Revord in the first place on the Young Sheldon set, it’s all down to what happened during Big Bang Theory.

Whilst filming, Kaley Cuoco decided to cut her long hair into a short pixie haircut, which some viewers absolutely hated.

The producer of both Young Sheldon and Big Bang Theory, Chuck Lorre, realised it had been a huge mistake to let the actress cut her hair as “the audience had become infatuated with the character, and not just the character’s behaviour and flaws and strengths, but in how the character looked.”

He added: “They became iconic, and to disregard that audience attachment was a mistake. And I witnessed it firsthand.

“It would have been the same thing if Johnny [Galecki] had come to the wrap party and had shaved his head. We’re all in this together!

“But I love that Kaley recognized it for what it was. She’s very self-aware, and we survived it. As bumps in the road go, that was a small one.”
