Lance Barber to reprise role as George Cooper in Young Sheldon spinoff despite being killed off

Despite being tragically killed off during Young Sheldon, it’s been confirmed by the spinoff producers that Lance Barber will return as George Cooper for Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.

Whilst it’ll be very bittersweet seeing George again, he won’t be brought back from the dead, instead appearing in the form of a dream to talk with Georgie.

The producers of the Young Sheldon spinoff confirmed that Lance Barber would be returning as George Cooper during a press panel.

Executive producer Steve Holland revealed the news about the cameo when asked whether any stars from Young Sheldon would be appearing in the spinoff.

He explained: “We’ve got Lance Barber. He’s gonna be returning as George Sr. in an episode coming up, which we’re really excited about, and it was so much fun to have him back on the set, especially after killing him off on Young Sheldon.”

As for why they decided to include him, Steve added that it was as “an apology” to viewers as a result of them deciding to kill him off during the final episodes of Young Sheldon.

As for what his appearance will look like, the producers revealed: “Georgie’s thinking about his dad, and he’s sort of worried that his dad… might be disappointed in him and so he, his dad visits him in a dream.”

He continued: “The idea came out of a conversation we’d had with Chuck Lorre even early on talking about the show and Chuck had said about his own father that he still dreams about him, but he still visits him and so that was the thing we had sort of thought about and then when we were breaking this episode, it just seemed like a great opportunity to bring George back.”
