Who is Sam Parker, the Senate candidate calling for Selena Gomez to be ‘deported’?

She thanked him for the ‘laugh and threat’

Selena Gomez has gone viral after crying on Instagram about Trump’s new immigration laws, and a senate candidate has threatened to deport her in response.

The singer and actress took to her Instagram Stories to emotionally react to the mass deportation of Mexicans that is currently being carried out in the United States.

After becoming president, Donald Trump passed some new orders to remove illegal Mexican immigrants from America and stop more crossing the southern US border.

Now, Sam Parker has called for Selena to be deported on X, but who is he? Here’s everything you need to know.

So, who is Sam Parker?

Sam Parker is a US government official who works for the Department of State, the executive department of the federal government that’s responsible for foreign policy and relations.

He’s currently the Political Unit Chief for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, which deals with developing and implementing US policy in the Near East. This means he is particularly involved in Iran, Iraq and Syria.

Parker has worked in the Department of State for over a decade, since 2014. Before that, he held many other roles associated with Iraq and Syria in other US government departments. He also ran for election in the US Senate in 2018 but was eliminated.

What did he say about Selena Gomez?

The foreign policy specialist wrote on X: “Selena Gomez picked illegals over America b/c she’s the 3rd gen descendent of Mexican illegals who received citizenship in the ‘87 Amnesty.”

“She has an entitlement attitude toward America, like her illegal g’parents,” he added. “Maybe Selena should be deported, too?”

In another post, he then said: “Deport Selena Gomez.”

This came after the 31-year-old sympathised with Mexican immigrants on Instagram, saying: “I just wanted to say that I am so sorry. All my people are getting attacked – and children.”

“They don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything I promise.”

Selena clapped back on Instagram

Selena clapped back at his post, writing jokingly: “Oh Mr Parker, Mr Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.”

Then, he replied in a now-deleted post: “Inject their tears into my VEINS. I dragged Selena Gomez pretty hard today.”
