Debunked: Did Lana Del Rey tell Selena Gomez to ‘go back to Mexico’ after her crying video?
Selena recently broke down over Donald Trump’s deportations
After Selena Gomez cried about Mexicans being deported by Donald Trump, a “satirical” Twitter account circulated a fabricated statement from Lana Del Rey that told Selena to go “back to Mexico” with her grandmother.
Lana Del Rey is being slammed on Twitter for telling Selena Gomez to “go back to Mexico” with her Abuela after she posted a video crying about Mexicans being deported by Donald Trump. But don’t read everything you believe on the internet folks.
After Donald Trump took office as the 47th president of the United States last week, he instigated a series of extreme rules alongside stripping back protections for a range of minority groups. ICE raids over the weekend rounded up 956 people across numerous major US cities, with Selena Gomez posting an emotional video in response.
“I just want to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked,” she said on Monday. “The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry I wish I could do something but I can’t. “I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”
Soon enough, Lana Del Rey was trending after people spotted an alleged horrendous statement – here’s what it said.

After US Senate candidate Sam Parker said that Selena Gomez should be deported for her emotional Instagram video, a Twitter account doubled down on the comments.
“BREAKING: Popstar and MAGA supporter Lana Del Rey commented on Selena Gomez’ viral video: ‘You should pack your bags and go back to Mexico. Take your abuela with you,'” Twitter account Shaniqua Posting Delusions posted.

In just 24 hours, it has accumulated over 5 million views and 118k likes and has been covered extensively by foreign news outlets. People are also reacting online but are questioning whether it’s real.
“This can’t be true. I want it to be true, but there is no way she’d do that, right?” one person questioned, as another wrote, “One thing for certain and two things for sure. Lana Del Rey doesn’t make a lot of noise but when she does she goes for the jugular.”
But as it turns out, it’s completely fabricated. For one, Lana would not have been able to post that comment because Selena’s video was on her Instagram story. Secondly, no reputable sources, organisations, or Selena herself have confirmed the comment.
The Twitter account in question, Shaniqua Posting Delusions, is also a parody account similar to Fake Showbiz News and Poo Crave. In it’s bio, the account even describes itself as “satire.”
