All the influencers who lost their heads over the TikTok ban and their unhinged reactions

Some say James is still hiding under the bedsheet

Despite the warnings, a lot of people didn’t truly didn’t believe TikTok would actually be banned in America, myself included. I mean, it was rumoured for years, and there was even talk of Mr Beast buying the app to avoid it being blocked in the US, but it still seemed too obscure to actually happen.

So when TikTok went dark in America over the weekend, a lot of people lost their heads. And of those that didn’t take the news too well, influencers were the hardest hit. We saw tears, breakdowns and even burner accounts as celebs snuck back onto the app in a desperate attempt to claw back control. Here are al the influencers who lost their shit over the TikTok ban over the weekend.

Alix Earle wanted to be ‘checked into a mental hospital’

TikTok influencer Alix had a tearful breakdown over the weekend, uploading a video of herself in tears over the potential ban of the app. With over seven million TikTok followers, she described how she was “freaking out” by the news and said she couldn’t sleep.

Speaking to her followers from her bed, she said: “I can’t sleep, I’m so freaked out about this. I’m just so sad, just thinking like all of the memories just going away.

“I’m freaking out because I’m like where am I gonna scroll, it’s so much fun talking to everyone on here.”

She even joked: “Guys this is not okay, someone’s going to have to check me into a mental hospital. What the heck is going on? Can we all just like hang out? This is going to be the worst day ever.”

James Charles hacked back onto the app with a burner account

Out of all the reactions to the TikTok ban, the makeup guru was not taking the loss without a fight. After breaking down in a tearful video where he discussed his memories and the “beautiful community” on the app, James was fast to find a bypass to the ban after it came into place on Saturday night.

Hiding under a bedsheet, he created a new TikTok account and detailed what happened when the ban came into place in a video captioned “SOS”.

“Hello, rest of the world, it’s James. I think I may have found a loophole while the rest of America is banned. Things are not good over here and I have to make this quick before they get me.

“They told us the app was going to go at midnight – SURPRISE. They took it from us two and a halt hours early. We were all just scrolling and enjoying our last couple of moments on the app. ‘Land of the free, home of the brave’, I don’t f*cking think so. This is crazy, we are all crashing out, I don’t know what the fuck to do.

“You guys please take good care of them while we’re gone. I don’t know if we’re ever coming back.”

Responding to viewers who commented “Ariana what are you doing here?” on the video, James said: “Girl this is my app. You can’t keep a bad bitch down, I was always going to find a way back on. I just didn’t think it would be this quickly.”

Tana Mongeau trauma dumped all her TikTok drafts

In some crazed last hurrah, Tana decided it was time to air out her drafts folder and dumped so many random videos on the app before it went down on Saturday. From stitching old videos of her dancing to WAP, to random clips of her in the club – I fear she lost her head for a bit there.

She did get sentimental, posting a chatty video where she explained how she embraced being called a TikTokker over being recognised from YouTube, but said she would be moving back to posting videos on YouTube after the ban. And then of course, Tana immediately posted a video when the app came back, saying it was so it girl of TikTok to come back so quickly.

“TikTok is so me. Leaving, just so they miss you. Leaving just so everyone’s like ‘no, don’t go.’ [Then] coming right back, folding like a lawn chair.”

Addison Rae posted a eulogy

tiktok ban reactions

Reactions to the TikTok ban were not taken lightly among the Hype House gang, including Addison Rae. In a harrowing statement, Addison left a vague post where she thanked the app for being a “transformatice arc” in her life. She simply wrote: “I don’t know the words that will suffice. Transformative arc in the story of my life. Accept my endless gratitude.”

But it clearly didn’t hit as intended, as people were so confused. One user wrote “queen what does this mean”, while another simply pit “did she die”.

And Charli D’Amelio reshared her cringe dance videos

Was this just a trip down memory lane? Charli decided to reshare so many of her old dance videos, leaving many people confused. One person wrote: “Charli are you ok? Just posting old videos.”

Others recognised it as a full circle moment, commenting “finishing how we started ” and “we were cringe but happy.”

The ‘Since we’re all gonna die’ trend gave us answers

Loads of TikTok influencers jumped on the trend, using the Family Guy sound to reveal secrets that they felt they should share before the app went down. Kenzie Ziegler admitted all of her interviews from Dance Moms were scripted, including the iconic “all I wanna do is stay home and eat chips” line.

Similarly, Charli dropped the bomb that the old clip of her with where she appeared to be puffing on something in her mouth was not in fact an anxiety pen, as previously claimed. Seemingly taking the TikTok ban well in comparison to others’ reactions, she hopped on the trend and said: “While we’re here admitting things if TikTok’s going away, it wasn’t an anxiety pen. I still to this day don’t know who came up with that but.. I’m sorry.”
