From karaoke singing to writing bestsellers: Inside the private life of Richard Armitage

It’s Richard’s world and we’re just living in it

Richard Armitage is without a shadow of a doubt, a national treasure. The Hollywood actor never ceases to amaze us with his acting ability, and if he’s in a show, you know it’s guaranteed to be top tier.

Recently, Richard has starred in Missing You, Harlan Coben’s latest Netflix adaptation about a woman who’s searching for answers after her father is murdered and her fiancé disappears.

But, what does Richard do when he’s not starring in crime dramas? Well, let’s take a deep dive into everyone’s favourite British actor’s super private life.

He’s written a best-selling book

We can’t talk about the life of Richard Armitage without talking about his incredible success as an author.

Richard published his first novel, Geneva, in 2023. The story follows a Nobel prize-winning scientist, Sarah, who is suffering from bouts of memory loss. She is invited to a biotech conference, but as her symptoms worsen and events spin out of control, she no longer knows who she can trust, including herself.

The book has done incredibly well, being a Richard and Judy Book Club pick, as well as being named one of Waterstones’ best paperbacks of 2024.

Harlan Coben, a fellow author who has worked with Richard on the former’s book to screen adaptations, also sang the book’s praises, calling it “outstanding”.

He has also written a second novel, The Cut, which is now available on Amazon Audible, but fans will be able to grab a copy of the book to read later this year.

Putting both of these on my Goodreads list right now.

He’s been doing a tonne of press

The devil works hard but Richard Armitage works harder.

If he’s not working on top tier drama series, starring in blockbuster movies or writing his own books, Richard is doing press events.

His Instagram is full of pictures and videos from events he’s done, such as numerous red carpets for his latest project Missing You.

He’s also been seen attending book fairs across Europe to promote his book, Geneva, as well as his upcoming novel The Cut, and of course, he’s done the classic This Morning interview as part of his promotion campaign.

Richard loves travelling to exotic locations

I guess it’s all part of being an actor but it’s no surprise that Richard Armitage has a life filled with jet-setting to incredible locations.

He’s shared photos with his Instagram followers of his trips to Iceland, Canada, Spain, and of course, Geneva.

He received an honorary degree

Despite Richard’s busy schedule, he still found time to head to Leicester to receive his honorary degree.

In 2022, the Leicestershire-born actor received an honorary doctorate from the University of Leicester.

He also took time out to take photos with fans and fellow graduates at the event.

Obsessing over Beyoncé, because same

He might be famous but there’s one thing we can say we have in common with Richard, he’s a Beyoncé fan.

For ITV’s National Lottery Big Bash, which was shown on New Year’s Eve, Richard took to the stage singing in front of a huge screen of Beyoncé.

Unsurprisingly, he shared the experience with his Instagram followers, joking: “Backing vocals by Beyoncé”.

However, his superb musical taste doesn’t stop there as his go-to karaoke song is Sophie Ellis Bextor’s Murder on the Dancefloor. What I’d give to see Richard belting that out down his local.

Richard keeps his love life private

Richard Armitage is very private about his romantic life, often only sharing his professional experiences with the press and his followers.

However, in 2023, he came out publicly, telling Radio Times: ““[It] happened when I was 19, to anybody who mattered, and I was always waiting for that question to punch me in the face, and it never did.

“I thought, ‘Are people being polite, or is it that they don’t want to know?’”

He added: “I don’t know that I ever wanted to put myself in front of the work I was doing, anything about my family or personal life.

“I just thought, ‘Let the work speak for itself.’ I love the idea that whatever gender, sexuality, the fluidity of who you love, how you identify, is not fixed.”

It is not known if Richard currently has a partner.
