Shawn Mendes considered binning off his music career to become a ‘small town’ therapist
‘It’d be weird at first for everyone, and then eventually they would just get used to it’
In the most recent shock development in the series of Shawn Mendes telling us random stuff about his life, he has now confessed he actually considered swerving his very successful music career off for a drastic change in vibe: He wanted to become a therapist. To be fair to Shawn Mendes, he is definitely one of the more soothing men in pop and I can imagine an hour session with him would leave me feeling very relaxed and reassured. I am aware that sounds slightly lewd but I do mean that in the most wholesome way possible. Anyway, here’s what he said.
Speaking on a new podcast appearance on How’s Life with host John Mayer, the comment came after Shawn Mendes opened up about how he cancelled his 2022 Wonder tour in order to look after his mental health. After this, Shawn Mendes says he had a crisis with his career and considered quitting music all together. John then inquired as to what his alternative would be if he no longer was a singer songwriter world famous pop star.
“I have no idea. For real, I seriously thought about, I actually took a small therapy course and I was like, ‘I might just become a therapist in a small town,’” he said. “It’d be weird at first for everyone, and then eventually they would just get used to it.”
Fair play.

He also lowkey commented on the whole saga this year regarding his apparent love triangle with Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello, who have both widely been rumoured to have been discussing Shawn in their bigger songs of this year. Shawn explained “I wouldn’t stop myself from falling in love with another songwriter. It’s a no-brainer to me that the suffering that is from hearing a song maybe talking about you in a way you don’t want to be talked about is not even close to the beauty of falling in love with someone for the first time. It’s a funny feeling to feel like you’re being written about, and like maybe the whole picture is not being expressed.”
Would actually kind of love a Shawn Mendes therapist era. Save me Shawn Mendes, save me.
